In collaboration with the Nursing Director the Assistant Nursing Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the PACU at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The Assistant Nursing Director fosters associates commitment to improving quality, safety, and cost-conscious patient care outcomes. This role offers the chance to direct and coordinate the nursing and patient care delivery of the unit-based professional and support personnel. The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) cares for patients recovering from general anesthesia, MAC moderate sedation and pain blocks. Care in the 23 bay PACU is primarily provided to adult for both in-patient and out-patient procedures. The nursing role in the PACU is focused on basic life-sustaining needs, that are of the highest priority. Constant vigilance is required in the immediate post anesthesia period. Our staff is engaged in providing communication to the patient and family to ensure an optimal patient and family experience during a vulnerable time period.Key Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Nurse Director, develops department goals, objectives and ensures compliance with hospital policy and procedure, clinical practice, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
Provides shift-based clinical leadership through role modeling professional practice behaviors, proper delegation of activities, and management of the nursing team and promotes unit activities that enhance department satisfaction an engagement.
Collaborate with the nursing leadership team, Medical Staff, and leaders of other departments/disciplines to ensure seamless patient care.
Participates in patient rounding to review patient status and connect with patient and family.
Collaborates with the Nursing Director in the hiring, evaluation, promotion, and termination of personnel within the department as needed and initiates coaching and counseling of associates.
Maintains clinical knowledge and skills and engages in the provision of direct care for a caseload of patients as required.
Assumes administrative responsibilities in absence of the director and as needed provides coverage for other colleagues.Why Join Us

· Bachelor’s degree in nursing (Master's preferred)
· DC RN License
· Approximately three to four years of progressively more responsible job-related experience
