RACP Accredited ADVANCED PAEDIATRIC TRAINEE 1.0 FTEWomen, Child & Youth Clinical Care GroupTe Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti is pleased to open applications for a Royal Australasian College of Physicians Advanced Paediatric Trainee in our Paediatric Department here at Gisborne Hospital, Tairāwhiti. This is a 12 month fixed term position, however placements for less than this duration will also be considered.Our vision is “Working together for a Healthier Tairāwhiti” so this means you will enjoy contributing to a supportive team environment with our highly experienced and committed Paediatricians, as well as House Officers and the many other multi-disciplinary teams and departments.The suitable candidate will have completed both the written and clinical FRACP examinations in Paediatrics. The clinical attachment in Gisborne is accredited for 6 months of rural training and 6 months non-core training. There is potential for trainees to achieve 6 months of developmental training also with additional clinics and work.The Advanced Trainee will function as a junior consultant under specialist paediatrician supervision at all times. The successful candidate will ideally be nearing completion of advanced training. They will carry out their own outpatient clinics, ward rounds and on-calls as the lead doctor with a specialist paediatrician available to them at all times.The Advanced Trainee will be responsible for the delivery of paediatric assessment and treatment of both inpatients and outpatients under his/her care to a secondary specialist level. The on-call roster is 1:6, with the trainee included on the SMO roster with dedicated specialist support.Our focus is on your learning. We have an active educational program within the department and you are given dedicated non-clinical training time on your roster to help you achieve this.The Tairāwhiti Paediatric service is aligned with the Wellington Training Network. After your time in Tairāwhiti you will have the opportunity to rotate to the Wellington region to further or complete your Paediatric training.Gisborne region is unique, we provide healthcare for one of the highest population demographically for Māori in NZ and the township has a population of around 35,000 and the outlining farming areas a further 10,000, so it’s just a short commute to work every day (some ride their bike to work every day).Enjoy living by the beach, in one of the sunniest places in NZ.
