As a Department Manager you are responsible for a single functional department within a division. This role is for the management of the Bay of Plenty first coat sealing department. As the Department Manager you will coordinate all on site-foreman, employees, plant resources and subcontractor teams. You could be involved in large projects in scope/size or multiple smaller projects. Our values will drive everything you do. This role will also use your skills and experience in pricing and management to put together all the estimates for the surfacing division.In addition to the above you will:Create, manage, and deliver annual financial budgets for the chipseal departmentPricing and tendering of work within department managers delegated levels of authorityAssist Divisional Manager with preparation of larger tenders, quotes, estimates for the chipseal departmentBe aware of and oversee contractual procedures for managing changes to scope of work for direct work and sub-contractor agreementsWork closely with internal and external customers to deliver complex programs and deliver all contracts to their respective due dates for completionEnsure forward planning, organising, and ordering of contract subbies, survey, materials, plant, and peopleEnsure your department staff are provided with leadership and guidance to maximise performanceBuild and maintain strong professional relationships with customers and other key stakeholdersProvide technical advice and support to direct reports and peersMake sure all safety, environment and quality process are followed by the teamTo be successful in this role, you will:BE or NZCE or significant industry experience (Diploma in engineering or relevant industry)Minimum 5 years relevant experienceExperience managing and developing teams (preferred)Relevant department knowledge and understandingFluent in Microsoft office suite including MS ProjectSafety related certificationCurrent class 1 driver’s licenceLook after the safety of yourself and people around you, ‘push pause’ when needed, never carryout a task when the safety of yourself and others is at riskMake sure pre-start meetings are taking place, have input where relevant - understand the hazards and the plan to control themYou will be a supportive and collaborative leader with a passion for developing and growing talent.
