Your Accountabilities:General:
  • The QA engineering professional is expected to deliver the day to day test activities, optimising quality, coverage, velocity and enhancement of tests in the context of the test strategy (ies).
  • A key purpose of this role is to be contribute to analysis of complex or new solutions from a test design perspective, including use of test techniques.
  • The role contributes to the review of design specifications
  • They will plan, design, execute and report of tests, using appropriate testing tools and techniques and conforming to agreed standards to assure the test quality.
  • Influencing the testing with business acumen of relevant technologies and applying that knowledge of a technology to the test scenario.
  • Performs test analysis on complex or new solutions.
  • Apply test expertise in the static testing phases to identifiy defects early, including but not restricted to during Requirements Validation and Design reviews.
  • Undertake diagnostics, understanding the complete end to end solution design to work out where the issue exists. Advising the appropriate teams where the issue exists.
  • Contributes to the creation of project test strategies in their particular domain, providing recommendations to the test manager based on their area of knowledge.
Subject matter expertise:
  • May be a Subject Matter Expert in at least one test function, a technical or business domain ideally in Contact Centre Deliveries, Genesys, Cisco WebEx, Five9's. Where a test specialism is held, the purpose of the role is to improve the quality of testing being undertaken related to their specialism, by applying their knowledge of the specialism to the activities performed by the test organisation.
  • Expertise across both functional and non functional testing for contact centre solutions including but not limited to manual and automated functional testing, HA/resilience/failover testing, Disaster Recovery Business Continuity testing, Load/Performace/Stress testing.
Improve quality:
  • Provide support to improve the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of testing within their business unit with respect to their specialism.
  • Supporting the adherence to the test strategy and processes being followed for a programme
Coaching:
  • You share knowledge and information to directly benefit or support others within the testing domain
Third Party involvement:
  • May contribute to the creation and execution of a plan to review/monitor the activities of third party test resource
Reporting:
  • Reporting on the test progress to test manager and appropriate stakeholders both internal and external
  • Provides recommendations and advice towards management decisions on matters relating to test projects AND the test organisation in which they work, including new test tools, customer disclosure information, training options for their teams
Skills Required:Skills for core activities:
  • Responsible for supporting the stakeholder acceptance teams - including witness testing, being on site with the customer, reviewing test activities, defects, data and test documents produced by third party test resource as part of an established project assurance plan.
  • Providing the analysis during a conflict situation when determining where the issue exists e.g. in a component situation.
  • Operates methods to assure the quality and coverage of tests written for their area, against the business requirements.
  • Able to support, define and lead on day to day testing activities for their area of responsibility (internally or externally facing)
  • Establishes and operates periodic test progress and results reporting for key stakeholders.
  • Undertakes ongoing analysis of test progress against plan to identify risks to and issues with successful test completion; addresses those risks and issues as appropriate seeking guidance within the test unit when required.
  • Supporting the validation of test estimates
  • Delivering optimum test execution rates by liaising with customers, vendors, project and programme management alike and reliably delivers results.
  • Organises defect triage and diagnostics for complex defects needing input from multiple teams.
  • Works collaboratively across all relevant teams
  • Perform traceability activities.
Skills for broader activities:
  • Attend supplier-facing events in capacity as a Test professional, providing assurance of the supplier testing activities and/or services and products, by executing or witnessing on site testing.
  • Will have commercial awareness and ability to apply that to their activities.
Cross skill collaboration:
  • Contributor to BT test Academy/professional community in the capacity of a test professional, supporting test analysis as a skillset of the community.
  • Contributor and owner of Verify CI initiatives in the capacity of a test professional, supporting the planning, delivery and execution of these initiatives.
Problem solving:
  • Identify and resolve any problem within your control or contribute expertly to the resolution of any problems that threaten successful completion of testing to meet project objectives.
  • Enhance overall effectiveness and efficiency of testing on an ongoing basis -release on release.
  • Analyse production defects, finding ways to discover/remove them before they reach production in future.
  • Interpretation of designs, requirements and use cases into test scripts.
  • Evaluation of working practice, tools, environments etc. for continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to resolution of functional and non functional problems with a test environment or solution under test.
  • Solve any problem within your control or contribute expertly to the resolution of any problem arising during the definition and sourcing of the data required for a test set.

  • Retesting of defects.
  • Identification of the likely organisation to resolve the defect identified.
  • Solve any problem within your control or contribute expertly to the resolution of any problems arising when associates encounter tool issues.
Change Management:
  • Managing change control of all aspects of the testing within their remit against the attendant changes in project requirements, design, timescales, priorities, direction etc.
  • May make recommendation for the change of testing scope for a bundle/package of test activity when circumstances suggest the scope is no longer valid.
  • May make recommendation on the way testing is being conducted on a test project AND as a test team.
Experience Required:Technical skills:
  • The individual is comfortable in the role of test professional and has developed a wide spread of skills in the role to which they are assigned, still refer to the mentorship of test managers on occasion, can now perform most tasks unaided. At this level, an experienced tester may now be branching out into a field of test specialism.
  • The individual is comfortable in the field of Contact Centre Solutions, across a range of platforms, able to understand complex design documents, identify test requirements and apply technical skills in the identification and execution of tests.
Preferred Technical Skills:
  • Test automation
  • XRay JIRA for test and defect management
Expected Experience:
  • Senior stakeholders may include Solution Architects, Programme Manager, Test Manager/Architect, Service Managers.
  • In order to achieve this, the role requires a minimum of 3-5 years' experience of delivering testing on complex programmes.
  • Working towards a foundation qualification in testing ISTQB or equivalent.
  • Working towards membership of a professional body ie. BCS, IET, IEEE or building equivalent, required knowledge and experience (as appropriate to the role).

6. Supports the communication of complexities of internal systems to help test against known issues
7. Assesses and suggests ways to mitigate risks that have an impact on the quality of products and services
