Within Chassis Engineering department, Geometrical assurance team is responsible for ensuring fit and finish requirements. you'll have a chance to get hands-on experience with Volvo products. The Geometrical assurance engineer is responsible to ensure that proper datum systems are set , tolerances are allocated to parts and tolerance stack up studies are done to in order to meet the requirements. Job Description Set requirements on geometries along with Product Design and Quality Impression with respect to customer requirements and manufacturability. Determine needs of tolerance calculations and carry out the tolerance calculations that concern several components or modules. Define datum targets and the size of tolerances in consultation with design engineer and manufacturing. Create the measurement strategy and the basic data. Carry out measuring preparation and decide measurement methods and measurement tool based on the end requirements in consultation with manufacturing. Responsibility Implement the complete GAE process in all the impacted areas of projects (for Chassis areas) Lead the activities, for all phases (development and industrial) & be Responsible for complete GAE deliveries as per time plan for a project. During concept study - Evaluate alternative concepts for GAE robustness, suggest the changes in the concept, define measurement protocols for suppliers & develop physical verification plan. Perform GAE related master verification and physical- virtual correlation. Analyse the conflicts with respect to demand and recommend the solutions with a QDCF mind-set Work on the assigned areas by performing 2D and 3D tolerance studies & optimizing the tolerances to meet the requirements Support all the functional calculations within Chassis, where packaging issues are reported Support the PIL(maintenance) activities, whenever factory & field issues are reported. Define and maintain aesthetic gap and flush target requirements (in chassis), wherever required Participate on the cross functional discussions and highlight the design & packaging issues Perform tolerance calculations for Exhaust systems, Powertrain installation, chassis equipment & transport adaptation Build Tolerance simulation/analysis models in RDnT software environment Find solutions to deviations from tolerance calculations. Attend regular project meetings, understand, and gather necessary inputs, resolve queries - Interact closely with local and onsite GAE counterparts, Product development engineers, Studio engineers, etc Requirements Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical / Production / Automobile engineering with 5-9 years of experience within automotive domain in the area of Geometrical Assurance/Dimensional Analysis Engineering. Sound knowledge & application of GD&T Define datum/datum targets, apply GD&T callouts to casted & Sheetmetal components, plastic parts and assign tolerances. Knowledge about 1D/2D and 3D tolerance stack up & well-versed in stack up calculations. Knowledge about Aesthetical requirements Gap, Flush, Parallelism, Alignment. Knowledge about functional calculations & requirements in chassis & complete vehicle Automotive product development knowledge, dimensional management - Exposure to engines, powertrain installation, suspension systems, exhaust systems etc Awareness of manufacturing technologies, processes and achievable tolerances, Knowledge of design and manufacturing requirements & constraints on typical plastic, sheet metal and tubular components. Knowledge of inspections fixtures, Gages, CMM measurements and methods. Exposure to statistical analysis of the data. Creo, RDnT/3DCS/Vis VSA or any 3D tolerance analysis software, PDM link, MS office Complete chassis and truck application knowledge. Team player, Customer focused and Business minded. Effective communication, Ownership and accountability.
