Our purpose it to give a voice to global talent. We are looking for a hands- on technical leader to manage and grow our software engineering team in Chennai. As Senior Engineering Manager, you provide technical leadership, vision, direction, and mentoring for the software engineering team. You are responsible for the overall health, strength, and performance of the team. Within the business, you are an influential leader working closely with Product Management, Marketing, and client- facing teams to understand the business and customer needs, and to define and deliver the product roadmap. Responsibilities Full ownership and management of the Engineering team in Chennai, including planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods. Define and scope technical projects in collaboration with business stakeholders, and take responsibility for the overall planning, execution, and success of engineering deliverables. Ensure that our architectural runway and technology strategy are well defined, well understood throughout the development team, and that they inform all projects and decisions. Ensure that refactoring and the elimination of technical debt are a constant and important consideration in all engineering planning and decision- making. Recommend optimal solutions based on business requirements, the current system, available resources, and architectural/ technology strategies. Provide strong leadership and decision- making, based on data, reasoning, strategy, conviction, and diplomacy. Lead, develop, and grow a team of highly skilled engineers operating in a fast- paced environment. In collaboration with other stakeholders, define and manage the infrastructure to enable highly efficient and reliable development, test, release and operational activity, and to support ever- increasing demands of scale, performance and security. Make effective use of agile practices to build an engineering delivery process that balances technical rigor with responsiveness to business drivers. Collaborate with Product Management to plan and schedule work for the product development roadmap. Guide and mentor team members, developing consistent coding standards, test discipline, and other methods to ensure consistently high quality outcomes. Foster an engineering culture that is focused on building high quality, reliable software that is highly maintainable, extensible, and scalable. Ensure that each engineer has a clear, tangible, and valued career growth path, with access to appropriate mentoring, training, and skills development opportunities. Lead knowledge management efforts and build processes to efficiently on- board new team members. Actively recruit new team members, participating in developer conferences, meet- ups, and social media channels to lift the company profile within the India development community. Occasionally travel overseas to work with other elements of the company, and/ or to work with customers or partners. Qualifications Bachelor s degree (or higher) in Computer Science or Engineering Minimum of 10 years of software development experience, 6 years of which must be in an engineering management position Full lifecycle experience designing, developing, delivering, operating and enhancing a significant cloud- based solution At least 5 years' hands- on experience with C#/ .NET, plus .NET Core expertise; at least 3 years hands- on experience in PHP development. (GlobalEnglish currently has no Java/ J2EE code, and no plans for Java development.
