You will get the opportunity to put your new skills into practice, while supported by the expert guidance of our experienced tradespeople - your own mentor.What will I be doing?The specific type of work will vary contract to contract, we do a lot of work with companies in the defence sector, you could also be working in social housing and schools/colleges. The types of tasks we cover include:Preparing surfaces (filling, sanding, caulking)Mastering the art of paint application (rolling, cutting in, brush skills)Sprucing up gloss work (doors and window frames, skirtings)Getting outdoors with external works (railings, sheds, fences and walls)Exploring different sites, working both inside and outside in all weather, whether it’s getting hot in the homes, or wrapping up in the winter on a commercial siteAs well as this, you will:Attend college to understand “the how and the why” of your chosen trade (usually 1 day a week)Build a fantastic portfolio of evidence to go towards your End Point AssessmentBe a valued member of the team and contribute to the overall successWhat will I need to apply?You don’t need to have had prior experience, all we ask for is;A genuine passion for painting and decorating and hands-on practical workA positive attitude with a willingness to stick with it and problem solveCommitment to building your career at Ian Williams – we are as committed to you as you are to usStrong organisational skills (to successfully juggle college and work)GCSE (or equivalent) grade 3 (D) or above in Maths and EnglishDT or construction based qualification would be beneficial but is not essentialYou will be based out of our Southampton office but there will be work across Aldershot, Waverley, Winchester and Amesbury.
