MRAEL in partnership with AMR Hewitts PrintPackaging are looking for a Prepress Apprentice to join their production site at Tullamarine, VIC.AMR Hewitts focuses on lithographic printing and prints onto a variety of mediums, specialising in folding cartons. This position is ideal for candidates with an interest in the printing and graphic arts industry. The print industry is a $2.5billion industry in Australia and has seen significant growth over the pandemic. Due to the growth and size of the industry, Prepress Operators are always in high demand.Undertaking a Certificate III in Prepress Graphic Design Production over a four (4) year course, the apprenticeship is a mix of on-the-job training, as well as theoretical training. At the end of the apprenticeship as a qualified Prepress Operator, you will be able to autonomously operate within the prepress department and be capable of producing and print ready PDF proofs for print manufacturing, print layouts, offset lithographic plates for printing.This exciting opportunity will see you join a longstanding, family-owned company, offering;

What's involved?The Certificate III in Prepress Graphic Design Production equips individuals with skills in layout design, image manipulation, and problem-solving specific to print media and will see you report to the Prepress Manager.This role is a full-time 4 year Apprenticeship and will typically see you carry out the following duties:
  • Shadow Prepress Operators as they conduct prepress functions for a lithographic printing press.
  • Shadow Prepress Operators to learn graphic design and software skills including photography, digital imaging, and producing final print ready proofs.
  • Checking files for errors, adjusting layout and colour settings, and managing colour consistency throughout the prepress workflow.
  • Arrange pages for printing, generate proofs for client approval, and perform quality checks to ensure the final output meets Australian standards.
  • Assist Prepress Operators in preparing layouts and printing plates.
  • Edit digital artworks to ensure they meet job specifications for carton printing.
