As a member of the Programs Department, the Life Enrichment Assistant
  • coordinates programming to include educational, social, recreational, health, and religious/spiritual components for residents and their guest(s).
  • drives the residence's van and car for trips as needed.
CORE DUTIES AND DEPARTMENTAL EXPECTATIONS:
  • Adhere to policies and procedures of Youville, as well as policies specific to the department
  • Adhere to safety and health regulations and policies
  • Assist in emergencies that occur in the residence
  • Meet and exceed Youville's standards for hospitality and services
  • Incorporate the mission and philosophy of Youville into daily tasks
  • Demonstrate sensitive communication skills
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Organize and complete tasks effectively
  • Report changes in resident behavior or unusual circumstances to Director
  • Perform all duties in a manner consistent with regulations set forth by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs
  • Participate in continuing education as required by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (job specific, * indicates essential core duties)
  • Supervise residents and participants in programs offered by the Programs Department
  • Supervise the Programs Assistant along with other staff, volunteers, and students involved with the Programs Department
  • Set up for programs, may require moving furniture and escorting residents in wheelchairs
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate all programs offered at Youville in order to address the physical, social, educational and spiritual needs of each resident
  • Assist with coordination of employee related events
  • Promote and communicate programming through using a variety of approaches (includes monthly and daily calendars, fliers, invitations, and posters)
  • Assist in publication of monthly newsletters
  • Assist in development and implementation of evaluation tools, such as surveys, attendance records, etc.
  • Maintain budget with Director of Programs and submit all expenses for programs to Programs Director
  • Participate in Program Committee meetings to address comments from residents and family members
  • Assist Director of Programs in supervising the Resident Salon Services for residents' use. Manage billing to resident accounts, oversee booking of resident appointments
  • Participate in Programs team and quarterly meetings
  • Assist the Director of Programs with the annual Resident & Family Satisfaction Survey
  • Assist the Director of Programs with transportation services and concierge shopping for residents and drives the Youville van and car for trips as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Understand the rights and needs of older adults
  • Communicate clearly with residents, staff, and families
  • Lift 50 lbs, sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, push and pull as required *
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
  • One year of experience relating to care giving for older adults
  • Educational background should include training in needs of older adults
  • Experience in implementing programming (recreational, social, religious/spiritual) in assisted living or related program for older adults
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Possess good communication skills in English:
  • Able to interact well with coworkers and residents
  • Sensitive listening skills, good comprehension, effective speaking ability
  • Reading and writing at level needed to fulfill job
REASONING/JUDGMENT ABILITY:
Ability to think clearly, assess and follow up in an appropriate and sensitive manner.
Must be patient and understanding of individual needs of residents and staff.
