Senior Fund AccountantOur client, a family office and philanthropic organization, is seeking a Senior Fund Accountant. The firm has about 300 people and their philanthropic programs focus on issues including immigration, the environment, gun violence, and race and equity. They also have a fund that operates like a VC, and this position supports the accounting for the fund.LOCATION: Headquarters are in Palo Alto and they also have an office in San Francisco. This is a hybrid role 3 days in the office, with one of the days in Palo Alto. The other days could be either SF or Palo Alto.JOB DESCRIPTION: The Senior Fund Accountant is a key member of the finance team, demonstrating a diverse set of responsibilities such as accounting for our investment portfolio activity and financial reporting. This position will work directly with the Finance team and report to the Assistant Controller.Role and Responsibilities
  • Record and book journal entries for all fund transactions in Netsuite for review by accounting manager
  • Prepare cash reconciliations on a weekly/monthly basis for review by accounting manager
  • Assist with carried interest waterfall calculation for distribution across multiple fund entities
  • Aid in backend investment funding process – assist with preparation of wire tables with relevant investment details and initiate approval flow for wire processing in connection with direct and fund of fund transactions
  • Assist with transfer of public equities from various stock transfer agents
  • Assist with preparation of quarterly closing package including, but not limited to, Balance sheet, Income Statement, Statement of Cash Flows, Schedule of Investments, IRR and MOIC analysis
  • Assist and contribute to the preparation of investment portfolio reporting including valuations in accordance with ASC 820
  • Assist with recordkeeping of investment legal documents and capitalization tables and reconciling between reporting systems (Carta/Aumni/Addepar)
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements/outsourcing and drive implementation of the solutions
  • Help ensure financial controls are adhered to while continually working with the organization’s finance team to ensure the platform and processes are working optimally to support the organizations investment activity
  • Support the investment team as required on ad hoc tasks
  • Assist with monitoring cash flows and provide recommendations on funding requests
  • Assist with portfolio company data gathering, as needed
Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements
  • BA/BS degree in accounting, finance, business, or related area of study
  • 5+ years of relevant experience (can include venture capital, or private equity experience in public accounting and/or private industry)
  • CPA or strong working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Exposure to various asset management organizations such as Venture Capital, Private Credit and Private Equity accounting
  • Ability to prepare reporting packages
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Knowledge of Addepar/Aumni/Netsuite/iLevel/Salesforce is a plus
  • Knowledge of ASC 820 valuations is a plus
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, proactive, able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and effectively deal with ambiguity
  • The candidate must demonstrate a strong work ethic, the ability to work independently and proactively to identify and resolve issues, and be trusted with maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Detail oriented, highly motivated and an analytical thinker who also understands the bigger picture
