OverviewReporting to the Plant Superintendent, the Field Safety Coordinator oversees the company's safety and environmental systems as it applies to successful product manufacturing and delivery, project management, and client satisfaction. This role supports the operations to ensure Lafarge continues to lead the way in safety and environmental excellence and employer of choice.Field Safety Coordinator is to provide support to both the hourly and salary employees in respect to plant and jobsite safety. This is conducted by providing onsite support for operators as well as participating in operational hazard assessments and controls in partnership with the Supervisors.Responsibilities:Safety:
  • Ensure all training certifications are valid, and re-schedule when required
  • Assist with near miss and incident reporting
  • Assist in Coordination and facilitation of Annual Kick Off Meetings for all employees
  • Facilitate Pre-employment and Post incident testing
  • Track Division's safety leading and lagging indicators and communicate to senior management team
  • Assist in Division's claims management program; monitor worker progress
  • Facilitate minor incident investigations, liaise with regulatory authorities as needed, and support compliance through operational walking through operations
  • Take minutes and participate in operational safety meetings promoting best practices and articulating employee's concerns
  • Execute corporate and Division specific policies, and safety initiatives to improve overall safety performance
  • Coach and train Managers and Supervisors on internal and external safety policies and programs
  • Conduct COR audits
  • Ensure SiteDocs accounts are current
  • Perform safety inspections including fire extinguishers and AEDs for administrative offices, attend operational inspections
Management /Operations Support:
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide suggested controls for risks associated with acquired jobs
  • Assist in problem solving site management issues
  • Manage Motor Vehicle Incident reporting documents
  • Assist in the Division's Contractor Management Program
  • Evaluate safety features on new and current equipment, trial new innovations, and provide feedback for management
Qualifications and qualities:Education and Work Experience:
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety (preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of industry related safety experience
  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Demonstrated strong application user skills for MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to think quickly in high stress situations
