Our security practice provides specialist guidance, services and education in cyber, information and physical security both in NZ and Australia.The Security Software Engineer is a technology-based role within our career structure that resides within our engineering department. The engineering department is responsible for growing and maintaining the technical capabilities of the company. The Security Software Engineer has a strong focus on development and automation of software; and will strive to streamline processes across the different teams.This role reports to the Software Engineering Manager.Primary Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, monitor and improve existing codebases and systems and peer review code changes.
  • Develop, design and implement new software projects and systems as needed.
  • Enhance applications by identifying areas that can be improved and make recommendations and changes based on these areas.
  • Improve system quality by identifying issues within systems and developing standard operating procedures.
  • Liaise with colleagues across all teams to implement technical designs and changes.
  • Provide written knowledge transfer material and other necessary documentation for future software engineers.
  • Assist with the preparation of pre-sales and sales collateral and documentation could be requested from time to time.
To be successful we are looking for the following:
  • At least 2-3 years of programming experience
  • A working understanding of common datatypes and collections
  • Knowledge of common algorithms and design patterns
  • Python 3 (Python programming is currently the primary focus of this role)
  • Git version control and VC platforms (GitHub, GitLab, etc.)
  • Linux development environments
  • Containerisation (Docker / Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Cloud-hosted infrastructure

Come and join a high performing business and learn from the best!Security-Specific ProficienciesAs well as being a software engineering role, this job involves interfacing with a variety of technologies specific to cybersecurity. While not necessary, experience or knowledge with any of the following would be helpful in this role:
  • Elasticsearch and the ELK stack
  • EDR systems (CrowdStrike Falcon, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint)
  • CASB systems (Netskope)
  • SIEM systems (Elastic-based, or Sentinel)
  • Threat Intelligence tooling (TIP systems, STIX/TAXII, etc.)
