That's why we offer highly competitive pay, opportunities for personal growth, and a great work environment with a sense of camaraderie.A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM OPERATORYou will support operation of two water treatment systems at a former sulfur mine located in Alpine County, CA. The water treatment systems include a high-density sludge (HDS) plant and sulfate reducing bioreactor. The HDS plant is a lime-based treatment system designed to collect and treat acid rock drainage (ARD) from on-site groundwater seep and stream sources. The bioreactor treats ARD from an on-site groundwater seep. The selected candidate will assist in the operation of both the HDS plant and bioreactor and support other various site activities. The primary operations field season is April through November with off-season office support and monthly site visits in December to March.Water Treatment System Operator duties include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Complete safety training and technician/operator training
  • Assist in completing daily paperwork/documentation
  • System operations, optimization, and monitoring (including remote monitoring)
  • Perform and document system inspections
  • Measure field parameters and collect compliance and discharge water samples
  • Evaluate sludge characteristics and oversee phase separator pickup
  • Assist in system troubleshooting and repairs
  • Perform system maintenance tasks
  • Oversee lime, fuel, flocculent, sodium hydroxide, ethanol, and water deliveries
  • Perform routine sampling
  • Maintain site safety and field logs
  • Assist in the preparation of operation status and periodic reports
  • Embrace and support a safe work environment
  • Stop work as necessary to prevent incidents or impact to the environment
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM OPERATOR
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience
  • Interest in water treatment and environmental assessment/remediation
  • Strong mechanical/technical skills
  • Experience working with valves/piping, pumps, generators, system controls, and sampling equipment
  • Self starter, quick learner, and effective communicator
  • Strong attention to detail and safety
  • Water and/or Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification preferred, but not required.
  • HAZWOPER training certification is preferred but can be provided if necessary
  • Candidate must be willing to travel
  • Being based out of Carson Valley, Smith Valley, or Mason Valley is preferred, but not required
