- The Monitor Tech, under the general direction of the Registered Nurse and Nurse Manager is responsible for monitoring the assigned central station EKG monitors for the unit population.
- Prints rhythm strip immediately if rhythm changes orpatient complains of chest pain or discomfort and notifies primary nurse.
- Ensures placement of patient on EG monitor.
- Immediately reports any change in rhythm or other pertinent observations to the charge nurse or assigned nurse.
- Works with assigned nursing personnel to coordinate initiation and/or discontinuation of cardiac monitoring.
- Charts patients' vital signs and ensures notification of the charge nurse and/or assigned nurse of any significant changes.
- Assesses quality of tracings o minimize artifact and other problems.
- Maintains/checks arrhythmia detection as well as the high and low limit alarm settings for each monitored patient.
- Ensures that the central monitoring station has adequate coverage at all times.
- Facilitates proper utilization of EKG Monitoring.
- Reports pertinent changes in patients' status to the Charge RN immediately of the notes change.
- Reports all abnormal findings to the assigned nurse or Charge RN immediately.
- Answers call lights and patient need requests without delay. Ensures CNA/primary nurse acknowledges patient needs.
- Identifies, sequesters and reports malfunctioning equipment to the Engineering Department immediately.
- Receives patient status report for area of responsibility from off-going staff members.
- Completes initial review of patient status noting patient's condition/responses within the first hour of the shift.
- Orients new personnel to the unit as delegated by the Charge RN/CCU Director.
- High School Graduate / GED
- Monitor Tech experience preferred
