Job Title: Structural Design EngineerLocation: Cape Town, South AfricaJob Summary:RPO Recruitment's client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Structural Design Engineer to join their team based in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and analyzing structures, including buildings, bridges, and infrastructure projects. The role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.Responsibilities:

Design and analyze structures in accordance with industry codes and standards, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and guidelines.
Create detailed structural drawings and specifications using relevant software programs such as AutoCAD and Revit.
Conduct site investigations to assess the feasibility of a project and gather necessary information for design purposes.
Collaborate with architects, construction teams, and other professionals to develop optimized structural designs that meet project requirements.
Perform calculations and simulations to determine structural load capacities, stresses, and deflections.
Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate design concepts and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
Review and provide technical feedback on project plans, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy and adherence to design principles.
Identify and resolve any design issues or construction challenges that may arise during the project lifecycle.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in structural design, materials, and technologies, and apply them to improve design processes.
Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and drafters in the team.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred but not required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural design engineering, preferably in the construction or consulting industry.
Strong knowledge of structural design principles, codes, and regulations, such as SANS, Eurocodes, and AISC.
Proficient in using structural analysis and design software tools, including AutoCAD, Revit, SAP2000, ETABS, or similar programs.
Solid understanding of various construction materials, including concrete, steel, and timber, and their application in structural design.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex engineering data and make informed design decisions.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
A proactive and collaborative approach to working within a multidisciplinary team environment.
