Stepping Stone Trust (SST) is a Charitable Trust that offers a range of community-based support services for adults, youth and families who live in Canterbury and Dunedin. We provide a high standard of Residential Care which enables our tāngata to live good lives. We currently have several Support Worker vacancies in Dunedin, where teams will be responsible for tāngata with brain injuries, intellectual differences and/or mental health conditions.

About The role | Mō Te TūngaIt is an exciting time to be part of the Stepping Stone whānau. Growth over the past few years has prompted our organisation to begin a new phase of development that will take us into the future. The Southern Region is at the forefront of creating positive and enabling environments for our mental health community that supports them in their journey to lead positive and fulfilling lives.We have a number of roles that would suit those with desire to extend their experience within the mental health sector. Our tāngata have complex needs including intellectual differences so you will need to have the ability to engage and develop good professional relationships with vulnerable people and their families.
All shifts require some degree of weekend work.About you | MōuWe are seeking a passionate and experienced person to provide support to our tāngata and staff to implement and meet our tāngata health care needs.
In this role we want you to:
  • Have a compassionate and caring nature with good communication skills and a strong work ethic
  • A willingness to commit to and support the bicultural journey that Stepping Stone Trust is on as we live out our partnership under Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
  • Focus on the recovery of our service users by ensuring that their needs are met
  • Set and achieve agreed goals and activities of daily living
  • Provide support to senior staff and service users
  • Assist with meal preparation and housework
  • A certain degree of computer literacy
  • A full, clean driver's licence.
We offer | Tā mātou mahiWhile experience working in the mental health sector is preferred SST provides training and mentoring to gain knowledge and experience supported by our senior nurses. Our team is passionate about the service we provide, committed to the work we do and supportive of each other. We operate in a friendly work environment where you, together with support staff, can make a difference in people's lives. We are able to provide:
  • Sick leave after 3 months, if eligible;
  • Birthday Leave (after 6 months of permanent employment);
