The Neurophysiology Department provides a range of services and this role is important in making a significant contribution, developing and maintaining best practice in Neurophysiology services.About the roleThe Neurophysiology Scientist is expected to perform in accordance with hospital procedures and instructions, the following tests to a high standard: EEG (outpatient and inpatient), Telemetry, NCS and assist with EMG tests, EP’s. As the department grows additional tests will also be conducted. As part of the testing process, gather patient’s medical history, explain testing procedures and prepare the patient for the procedure. Perform a technical report for the reporting Consultant.Operations

Set up new clinical testing fields as the department grows
Keep up to date with CPD within IICMS
Perform tests within the departmental procedures and protocols
Thoroughly understands various disease states and factors that relate to them, various medication effects, clinical changes or complications to insure high technical quality.
Operates the equipment according to the departmental procedure in order to obtain optimal results.
Liaise with the stores Department to keep lab fully supplied and all equipment in working condition.
Complete all necessary paperwork.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills especially the ability to communicate clear and concise instructions to patients in an understandable fashion.

Qualifications

Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Technology University Dublin or Dublin Institute of Technology.

Possess an equivalent relevant scientific qualification (Level 8) as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurements Physiology (IICMP).

Or if qualified in or prior to 2005

(a) Possess the Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) from Dublin Institute of Technology

(b) Possess an equivalent relevant scientific qualification as confirmed by the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Physiology (IICMP).

Knowledge & Experience

At Least 3 years experience in the respective Neurophysiology field
Candidates will be required to demonstrate excellent initiative, leadership and communications skills and work in close conjunction with all members of clinical team to ensure a cohesive and effective service is provided.
Organisational skills are of great importance in order to allow for the provision of structure and continuity to individual patient therapy including priority setting and time management.
Competence in the use of information technology.
Demonstrate the ability to manage deadlines and effectively manage multiple tasks.
Be highly motivated and capable of self management
Have experience in accreditation - JCI
