Salary:Grade 6, £32,332 - £36,024;Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum.This post is full time, and has funding for up to 24 monthsThe School of Computing Science is looking for a Research Assistant/Associate to contribute/make a leading contribution to the project 'Extracting the clinical impact of cancer mutations from research literature with natural language processing' working with Dr Jake Lever. The job requires knowledge in natural language processing (NLP) methods. No background knowledge of biology/medicine is needed. This project is a collaboration with Washington University in St Louis and Nationwide Children's Hospital in Ohio and is funded by the US National Institutes of Health. This is a fantastic opportunity for a candidate to develop new machine learning and information extraction methods and learn the principles of cancer genetics. The contract is for two years with the potential for renewal.The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.To be considered for an appointment at Grade 7, you must be able to perform the duties as listed for a Research Assistant position with a higher degree of independence, leadership and responsibility, particularly in relation to planning, funding, collaborating and publishing research, and mentoring colleagues.
