- Managing the mechanical engineering staff to complete projects on schedule and on budget. This involves planning, assigning and overseeing all activities and resources.
- Reviewing and approving design plans for new equipment, systems, facilities and processes. Ensuring designs meet intended functionality as well as all regulatory codes and standards.
- Overseeing preventative maintenance programs and repair/replacement projects for existing infrastructure such as production machinery, HVAC systems, boilers and other industrial equipment.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with vendors, contractors and regulatory bodies. Obtaining necessary approvals and adhering to industry best practices.
- Preparing budgets and managing capital expenditures for mechanical systems and facility upgrades. Tracking expenses and ensuring projects are completed cost effectively.
- Monitoring equipment performance and operational metrics like productivity, utilization rates and downtime. Identifying improvement opportunities and overseeing upgrades.
- Performing risk assessments and implementing workplace safety programs. Ensuring team and facility compliance with codes while promoting a safety-first culture.
- Leading and developing the mechanical engineering team with skills development, performance management and recruiting/hiring initiatives. Fostering employee engagement and team productivity.
- Provision of technical support and advice in Mechanical Engineering disciplines.
- Carry out regular and planned inspections and surveys of all the mechanical systems associated with the project.
- Supervise the provision and performance of all service providers in accordance with the SoWs, KPIs and SLA requirements within the site.
- Assist with the management and performance of all functions associated with mechanical systems and assets.
- Assist with the management and operation of the Permit to Work systems.
- Produce maintenance related Risk Assessments and Method Statements in support of the maintenance department activities.
- Review and prepare project documents as required (drawings, material and technical submittals) ensuring they comply with the original design intent.
- Assist with any testing and commissioning activities related to mechanical services as required.
- Carry out site inspections to ensure the site meets expectations in terms of accessibility, maintainability, and operability.
- Assist with training and mentoring in safe working practices.
- Participate in the out of hours emergency call out rotation as required.
- Prepare and administer relevant registers, PPM schedules, O&M manuals etc., as required.
- Respond to reported issues and coordinate efficient and effective responses.
- Prepare incident reports.
- Bachelors degree Mechanical Engineering related discipline.
- Diploma degree in Mechanical Engineering related discipline.
- Technical Certification in the related field.
- Membership to recognized accreditation bodies in your discipline.
- Accredited training by municipality
- Knowledge and experience in CAD.
- Knowledge of KPI and SLA systems.
- Knowledge of Quality procedures.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Understanding of Safe Systems of Work.
- Strong Health and Safety knowledge.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office environment including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
- For bachelors degree holder, at least 9-15 years of experience.
- Diploma holders must have at least 15 years of experience in the same industry and related experience.
- Excellent command of English (writing and speech).
