- Stringent training and regulations making it a safe place to work for healthcare professionals
- Oversee the ordering of medicines for the department
- Supervise assistants, when in the dispensary in providing dispensing services for the prison
- Dispense prescriptions and stock items in the dispensary
- Co-ordinate ‘Pharmacy Shop’
- Ensure high standards of work in the dispensary and to ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are read and adhered to
- Manage own workload in the dispensary
- Provide medicines optimisation visits to the allocated prison areas, under the professional supervision of a pharmacist
- Participate in clinical and departmental audits as required
- Must be registered on the GPHC
- Prison clearance is essential
- NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent
- Working towards Accredited Checking Technician Certificate
- Evidence of CPD
- 2 years experience of working in a pharmacy
- Previous prison or mental health pharmacy experience
- Good oral communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good knowledge of working within a set of SOPs
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to use initiative to problem solve
- Excellent organisational skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines
- Ability to use (or learn to use) computer packages including Pharmacy Manager/ JAC and Microsoft
- Some understanding of mental illness and substance misuse and their treatment
