Type: PermanentWe're looking for a Dynamic individual, passionate about biological control of invasive weeds and international development. Must have an understanding of entomology and invasive species. Knowledge in plant pathology/mycology/sterile working techniques is advantageous. Team player with the ability to work independently.This junior scientific role supports CABI’s Invasive Species Management (ISM) team. You'll contribute to high-profile biological control projects, rearing and releasing biological control agents, analysing experimental data, and collaborating across CABI units.🔬Responsibilities:
  • Undertake assigned project research and coordinate technical activities.
  • Contribute scientific and technical knowledge to scientific experiments.
  • Support the analysis of research data and compiling scientific results for project reports.
  • Provide practical support to field releases and monitoring of biological control agents.
  • Maintain plant stock, insect and pathogen cultures.
  • Ensure clean working areas and availability of necessary consumables.
  • Assist with literature reviews and information assimilation.
  • Provide proactive feedback to investigators and line managers.
  • Contribute to weekend/holiday watering of plants.
📈Experience:
  • Proven ability in scientific research and experimental planning.
  • Good laboratory practice skills and technical scientific experience.
  • Computer literacy, proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience/knowledge in growing plants, handling insects/pathogens, and evidence of dexterity.
🎓Education & Qualifications:
  • BSc or higher in a biological science (botany, entomology, ecology);
  • MSc desirable
