In liaison with the Executive Board and the Director of the World Coalition, he/she is responsible for the implementation and monitoring/evaluation of the FFPA project within the framework of the Framework Financial Partnership Agreement (FFPPA) between the European Union and the World Coalition, and for the smooth running of the Global Consortium to Abolish the Death Penalty led by the World Coalition within the framework of this FFPPA.1. Strengthening the abolitionist movement's best practices
  • Develop a Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, Learning (MEAL) plan for the FFPA and the World Coalition
  • Facilitate workshops to share best practices and strategies, in conjunction with the FFPA
  • Carry out internal and external evaluations of projects and share findings and recommendations with members.
2. Share information
  • Develop and implement a communication and distribution plan for the FFPA
  • Responsible for editing pages on the World Coalition's website dedicated to the FFPA, including writing and publishing news articles concerning activities, observations, and achievements connected to the grant
  • Help promote the activities of member organizations on social networks, the website and the Newsletter
  • Help share good news in several languages and monitor progress and report back to members
  • Contribute to gathering all data on the death penalty and its abolition from as many sources as possible
  • Amplify or initiate solidarity actions with organizations in the most retentionist countries
3. Coordinate international advocacy for abolitionIn liaison with the Director and other team members :
  • Monitor the international and regional agenda to identify advocacy opportunities and inform Consortium member organizations of synergy opportunities;
  • Organize online meetings to coordinate the activities of member organizations through working groups (Advocacy, Moratorium, etc.).
  • Facilitate the presentation of joint reports, joint resolutions, joint statements and side events, and support national organizations in the presentation of alternative reports to the Human Rights Council, the UN General Assembly, the UNODC, the Inter-American Commission, etc.
  • Promote advocacy by member organizations from retentionist and abolitionist countries in practice and finance their participation in relevant sessions of human rights mechanisms when their country and the death penalty are on the agenda of these sessions, and support their online participation where necessary.
4. Lead global campaigns for abolitionIn liaison with other team members:World Day against the Death Penalty:
  • Campaign design based on consultation with members
  • Leading the World Days working group
  • Produce and distribute information and mobilization tools
Campaign for the ratification of international and regional abolitionist treaties
  • Update of all campaign tools and list of target countries
  • Organization of an annual Friends of the Protocol meeting
  • Mobilize member organizations, institutional partners and human rights organizations around this campaign
5. Promote good governance and power balance
  • Help develop best practices and equitable partnerships with and between members
  • Contribute to effective supervision of the Consortium, assisting the Director in organizing meetings and reporting to the Consortium Board, the Consortium Executive Committee and all partners involved.
6. Help find ways to finance the abolition of the death penalty
  • Manage the FFPA and relations with the European Union (coordination of activities and management of the project cycle with members and with the EU, interim and final reports, preparation of next funding applications with members,).
  • Assist member organizations in applying for and implementing FFPA-related cascading grants
Qualifications :
  • Master's-level university degree (MBA, law, political science, sociology, human rights, communications, etc.)
  • Knowledge of and motivation for the associative, human rights and international solidarity sectors
  • 5 years' experience in project management and monitoring and evaluation (MEAL) (preferably in the field of human rights in a national, regional or international NGO)
  • Excellent command of information and communication technologies
  • Excellent written and oral skills in French and English, a third language is a plus
  • Knowledge of issues relating to the abolition of the death penalty and/or international and regional human rights mechanisms and/or previous work with EU projects is desirable
  • Ability to work with a small team and a broad coalition, strong listening and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to mobilize and lead a network
  • Autonomy, rigor, organizational skills, ability to prioritize and make proposals
  • Willingness to travel abroad
Conditions:
  • Salary according to qualifications and experience (from €2,700 gross per month)
  • Other benefits: contribution to transport costs (50%) and meal costs (lunch vouchers covered at 60%), employer-sponsored health insurance, teleworking possible up to three days a week.

  • Position in the Paris region (France), applicants must have the right to work in France on a full-time, indeterminate basis. The World Coalition cannot provide assistance with work visa applications.
