LaPrairie Crane, one of Canada's largest independently owned crane companies, is looking for an Apprentice Crane Operator to join our team in Winnipeg, Manitoba.LaPrairie Crane is a member of LaPrairie Group of Companies and is one of Canada’s largest independent mobile-crane companies with fleet capabilities ranging from 5 – 600 tons, including all terrain, boom truck, carry deck, crawler, hydraulic truck, rough terrain, and tower cranes.The successful candidate will report to the Branch Manager, Crane Operations and will satisfy the following criteria:Responsibilities:
  • Assist Crane Operators with assembling, setting up and rigging the crane properly with booms, extensions, and hook blocks.
  • Interpret load charts including, understanding the correct meaning of all notes and warnings and being able to calculate or determine the crane's actual net capacity for every possible configuration of the machine.
  • Assist Crane Operators with shutting down and securing the machine properly when it is unattended.
  • Complete and maintain accurate hours of service records, safety reports, and other work done on the crane while in the field.
  • Perform routine inspection and maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating cranes as required.
  • Uphold HSE regulations and be aware of any site conditions that could affect the crane operation.
  • Assist Mechanics with the maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist with shop and yard maintenance.
Qualifications:
  • Be eligible for registration as a registered apprentice; or be a registered apprentice.
  • Class 1A driver’s license is required.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate safe work practices, follow company policies and be able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • The successful candidate will be required to be in good standing with IUOE 987 or become members of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 987.
