Ward AssistantBlueStone Unit CAHTempThe Client: HSCNI - Southern and Health Social Care trustThe Role:Working as part of the Domestic Services Team, you will provide a high quality environmental cleanliness, catering and caretaking service which supports the delivery of patient centred care in Hospitals and other non-acute facilities.KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To follow cleaning procedures and work schedules to ensure that environmental cleaning standards are achieved.
  • Carry out cleaning duties in all areas as detailed on the work schedule or as instructed.
  • To observe correct use and care of machinery, equipment and materials.
  • To empty and clean waste receptacles, removing waste bags, clinical waste bags and sharps to designated area for collection.
  • To carry out isolation/discharge cleaning which involves removal and replacement of screens using safety steps.
  • Prepare, regenerate and serve food and beverages. Assist with patient meal service by identifying patient requests/requirements from the menu card e.g. special diets, red trays etc.
  • Take and record food temperatures, refrigerator temperatures and dishwasher temperatures.
  • Stock control which includes ordering, checking and storage of stock.
  • Be responsible for opening and locking up of work areas and the building where necessary and safe keeping of all keys and fobs.
  • To adhere to all Domestic/Support Services Policies and Procedures including: COSHH, Colour Coding, Food Safety Regulations, Waste Management etc.
  • Practice a good standard of hygiene in all aspects of work, maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and wear PPE provided.
  • Report all accidents and defects in equipment and work surfaces or areas requiring attention immediately to the line Manager or Head of Department.
  • To report any sightings of pests or infestations immediately to a supervisor or manager.
  • To attend all mandatory and other training when scheduled and apply it to the job.
  • To provide a high quality environmental cleanliness, catering and caretaking service which supports the delivery of patient centred care in Hospitals and other non-acute facilities
  • To co-operate and communicate with ward or department staff and work together as a team.
  • Ensure items used for hospitality are removed from offices, conference facilities etc. and returned to kitchen area or prepared for collection by catering supplier.
  • To carry out any other duties of a similar nature and appropriate to the grade as may be assigned by the Catering Manager.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times
Hours of work:Rota between the hours 7.30am - 8.30pm. Monday - Sunday (1 weekend in 2)35 hours per weekRequirements:· Hold or be willing to complete Level 2 Award in Food Safety (Basic Food Hygiene Certificate)· Ability to accept responsibility, to use initiative, to be accountable and cope with difficult situations in a calm manner.· Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.· Effective communication skills to meet the needs of the post in full.· Understanding of the importance of confidentiality in the work place.· Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.· Literacy and numeracy skills. Must be able to read and understand verbal and written instructions, health and hygiene notices and patient menu requirements and undertake basic quantity calculationsIn Return:
