Fixed-term: 12 monthsType: Part-time, 22 hour per weekStart date: August 2024As part of the Books commissioning team you will be responsible for managing delivery of manuscripts, supporting authors through the writing process and ensuring submission of manuscripts to the agreed schedule and quality. You will optimise the amount of time between author signature of contract and the handover of the manuscript to production.The role is responsible for the administration of the publication schedules and reporting back to the Publisher and the Commissioning Editors. The role involves liaising closely with authors and editors as well as various colleagues to ensure the books programme meets schedule and volume targets.WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Liaise with authors to support them during the writing process, and ensure timely delivery of manuscripts.
  • Regularly report on the progress of manuscripts and provide consistent level of support and quality control for the authors submitting manuscripts.
  • Administer the book programme schedule by checking weekly reports and analysing and responding to relevant data to maintain schedule integrity.
  • Manage the pipeline to ensure accurate records are maintained, including projected collection products.
  • Present relevant updates at team meetings and escalate areas for concern, suggesting innovative ways to offer author support.
  • Maintain author guidelines, welcome packs and contributor contracts, ensuring that all information sent out to authors is up to date and represents the current publishing environment.
  • Check marketing material based on the latest book publication information as required.
ABOUT YOU:
  • At least 1 year of academic book publishing experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good standard of numeracy.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Exceptional computer literacy, especially Excel.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skill.
