About The RoleOur PHP developers contribute to improvements, new features and maintenance of our Symfony 4/5 based web applications.Working as a member of our agile development team, new features are written using Object Oriented (OO) PHP/TypeScript, MySQL, HTML5 and JavaScript in an environment that encourages learning and the advancement of your technical skills as a developer.There will be genuine opportunities to progress your career.   • Build and maintain Wren’s custom built, cutting edge applications (Symfony 4/5 based)
  • Write clean code that is clear and understandable by others
  • Contribute to project estimations
  • Contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle
  • Work with senior developers, business stakeholders and wider development team to understand the initial scope for a new project
About YouEssential
  • At least 2 years’ experience in creating and maintaining object oriented PHP7 or PHP8 based systems
  • An understanding of the MVC approach to development
  • Experience of working with MySQL (We use v8 currently)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Ajax
  • Experience of using version control systems (such as Git) as part of a team
  • A passion for adhering to coding standards and clean code
Excellent communication skills – must be able to describe technical issues to a none technical audienceDesirable
  • A working knowledge of the Symfony (or equivalent) framework
  • A working knowledge of the Doctrine ORM
  • Experience in creating and maintaining RESTFul APIs.
  • Experience of working with:
  • TypeScript
  • React
  • React Native
  • MuleSoft or similar
  • Experience of automated testing (e.g. Playwright, PHPUnit)
  • Knowledge of design patterns, with practical experience of implementing them
  • Experience of agile project methodologies (and its impact on iterative design)
  • Experience of working in a continuous integration environment
  • Familiar with Linux or Mac OS
  • Has previously worked for a retailer / understands retail process
