Job Description:POSITION SUMMARY:Under general direction this position is accountable for contributing to the assessment, production support, production transfer, reformulation, quality, and enhancement of products through planning, executing and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results. This includes processing and adherence to sound economic advantages.Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • This function reports directly to the R&D group leader - Process Chemistry
  • To develop safe, cost-effective processes for compounds, scaling them up from lab through pilot plant and onto full-scale production and providing the necessary technical support to ensure the success of those activities in collaboration with R&D team (Designs and initiates own experiments, performs basic polymerization processes, install and approve formulas/raw materials).
  • Review products or materials for quality by evaluating raw materials, product maintenance, evaluating equipment for purchasing, meeting reformulating requirements, and responding to product problems (corrective actions).
  • Performs scale-ups. Ensure that the process instruction sheets are correct and that all administration surrounding the scale-up process is maintained.
  • Key driver in approving new alternative of raw materials.
POSITION CHALLENGES:
  • Accountable for the solution of complex technical scale-up problems (product/process) and demonstrating significant knowledge and use of chemicals, raw materials and instruments.
  • Accountable for providing timely and accurate solutions to multiple company problems of moderate to difficult complexity.
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:
  • Makes technical decisions and recommend/alter project path and assist in or recommend budget decisions.
  • Convince group leader/peers to support an idea or plan (using technical knowledge).
Qualifications:Formal Education:Required: Master of Chemical Engineering or ChemistryPreferred: Master in Polymer Chemistry with industrial internship experience in scale-up.Knowledge & Experience:Required:
  • 3 years of polymer synthesis specific industry experience
  • Experience in polymer production processes.
  • Knowledge of how to investigate a complaint and understand the analyses needed to do this.
  • Good knowledge of analytical chemistry
  • English speaking and writing.
Preferred:5 Years of polymer synthesis specific industry experience and scale-up experienceTechnical/skill Requirements:
  • Expert at bench synthesis (polymerization)
  • Statistical analysis skills, required for method development and basic mathematical skills, including knowledge of conversions.
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in software programs such as Minitab, Product Vision, and MS Office.
