SummaryPosition SummaryThe Team Leader, Lab Assistants is accountable for the operation of the areas supervised. As a result of this responsibility, may be contacted on a 24-hour basis for professional opinions. Organizes the workflow daily through the assignment of duties to Lab Assistants and Customer Relations Specialists in such a manner as to achieve daily goals. Knowledgeable of laboratory test collections that are age dependent, registration and billing practices. Supervises and performs collections on adults, children, adolescents, neonate and geriatric patients. Responsible for training personnel. Must stay abreast of advancements in his/her field. Is responsible for recognizing and implementing additional services to his/her department through collaboration with the Outreach Manager and Laboratory Director, as trends in technology, instrumentation and physician ordering patterns suggest the need. Must set goals and objectives for the department. Evaluates supervised personnel. Assumes responsibility of Director and Outreach Manager in their absence.EducationBachelors - PreferredExperience5-7 Years - PreferredMinimum of four years pertinent experience required.   • Organizes daily workload and personnel to achieve acceptable quality standards, recognizing weak areas and implementing appropriate additions to training. Monitors productivity, accuracy, compliance and specimen delivery to testing locations. Adapts readily to changes in workload and stressful situations, demonstrating confident and supportive behavior.
  • Performs, delegates and documents training of each new co-worker through formal orientation program and on-going competency assessment. Perform evaluation of supervised co-workers and conduct ongoing reviews. Provides manager/director approved written procedures as needed and according to standards set by regulatory agencies.
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement monitoring and evaluation as requested. Reviews and monitors to assess and identify on-going problems so that effective resolutions can occur. Maintains acceptable levels of compliance. Notifies Outreach Manager of on-going concerns and provides suggestions/solutions to identified issues.
  • Recommends, implements and documents compliance in accordance with applicable guidelines of regulatory agencies. Competently performs or delegates performance of routine monitoring in supervised areas requesting in-service assistance as appropriate. Keeps abreast of physician ordering trends and changes in instrumentation or technologies in order to recommend implementation of additional services.
  • Correlates abnormal laboratory results with pathologic and physiologic stats to determine validity and reasonableness of data to ensure accurate specimen collection. Educates supervised co-workers on possible causes of unexpected results. Implement changes in practices as needed to increase specimen integrity. Recognizes unexpected results, errors and problems with patient testing collections. Performs decision making functions without direct supervision.
  • Recommends and implements policies for supervised areas in accordance with applicable guidelines by regulatory agencies such as CAP, GDHR, Joint Commission. Develops solutions to issues based on knowledge of biochemical theory or reactions, patient diagnosis, and instrument performance recommending and implementing changes in collection procedures and techniques to correct problems.
