Essential Duties1. Strategy development and execution working with collaborators within and outside of the University. Working with leadership to develop and implement a strategic vision and work plans. 2. Recommend structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. 3. Advise leadership on broad range of strategic, development, and communications issues related to research and policy development opportunities. 4. Manage ongoing partnerships with local, state, national, and non-governmental organizations focused on health research, policy development and implementation. 5. Identify new opportunities for expanding the program within Yale and among other academic and non-academic organizations locally and nationally. 6. Seek external funding opportunities and assist with the submission of grant proposals. 7. New program and fund development, catalyzing program development throughout the University and with external collaborators. Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. 8. Envision and direct communications to support strong communication and promote visibility of the program both inside and outside Yale through strategic outreach, conference attendance, special events, media and other avenues. 9. Assumes primary accountability to initiate, design, and manage the compilation of program communications; identifying outreach potential and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. 10. Envision and execute the communications efforts for the program. YSN, located on the beautiful and sprawling grounds of Yale West Campus (WC), is conveniently located near major highways. The Yale WC has a lot to offer including free parking, woodland walking trail, café and terrace dining, farm, The Barn at WC for special events, a fully equipped conference center, outdoor space to relax and unwind, wellness events (mindfulness exercise, to nature walks and yoga), and Fitness Center (free for the WC community)! .Reporting to the Dean, the director would be an integral part of the team, collaborating with YSN faculty and academic leadership, to develop, implement and evaluate programs and initiatives that promote international collaborations, globally informed learning, and the discovery and implementation of innovations to improve and sustain the health of Earth and its human communities. This position is responsible for all Global Affairs and Planetary Health (GAPH) programming and activities at YSN. They will work closely with the Director of the International Academic Partnerships and Programs and supervise Office of GAPH staff. International travel is required. This position will also:
  • Provide strategic direction, operational oversight, and guidance for YSN's global initiatives including the integration of global affairs and planetary health with YSN's education, research, and community service goals.
  • Plans, coordinates, and evaluates infrastructure, resources, processes, and procedures necessary to implement global affairs and planetary health programming including monitoring of the GAPH budget.
  • Serves as the Dean's representative of YSN abroad and to international visiting delegations to YSN.
  • Serves as primary representative between YSN and the Yale community on global affairs matters, including the Yale Institute of Global Health.
  • Serves as the Dean's principal advisor on matters related to international activities and climate change initiatives.
  • Works with faculty, specialty directors, and program chairs to develop, implement, and evaluate global clinical immersion experiences.
  • Collaborates with faculty, academic leadership, and executive team to identify and secure external resources, including business development activities, grant funding, and donor funding to support programs.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean (AD) for Equity and AD for Student Life and Belonging to address the unique needs of international students and scholars.
  • Collaborates with AD for Equity to ensure that demonstration of cultural intelligence and principles of anti-racism, anti-colonialism in health justice are reflected in global affairs activities, programs, and partnership developments.
  • Oversee the visiting international scholar program in collaboration with the AD for Research and AD for Strategic Initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Communications to increase the visibility of activities at YSN.
  • Collaborate with AD of Enrollment Management to leverage global affairs and planetary health engagement to attract a diverse array of applicants; applicants who are interested in developing an advance practice, research program or leadership career that considers the interconnectedness of world events and global conditions; applicants who are interested in exploring how to use advanced practice to steward the environments where they live and work.
  • Collaborate with the AD of Development to extend and sustain YSN alumni's engagement with the school through opportunities to contribute to the school's initiatives in global affairs and planetary health and through opportunities for YSN to support alumni-led initiatives that are focused on improving health of global communities and/or addressing the health effects climate change.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:Master's degree in public health, health care admin and public administration, health policy, business or related discipline and ten years of experience. Prior experience in public health with an emphasis in global health, fund and policy development.
