SBU/Department: School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science, Dept. of EngineeringFTE: 1.0 fte (Working 37 hours per week)Duration of Contract: Fixed term (2 years)Salary: UH7 £37,099pa to £44,263pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experienceAnnual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New YearLocation: College Lane Campus, HatfieldTwo (2) Research Fellow posts to deliver research for the development of innovative AI algorithms for the management and optimisation of usage of healthcare system and patients' data. The two posts are part of a collaborative project with the Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care System funded by NHS England. The Research Fellows will have to attend project meetings, support the Principal Investigator (Academic Lead), collaborate with the consortium's partner members, and undertake the development of AI based software and databases tools for management and optimisation of healthcare data, writing of publications, reports and relevant documents to the project.Main duties and responsibilitiesTo support the Principal Investigator in achieving the project milestones and attend project meetings as required. To undertake the development of databases and software tools and undertake the development of software AI tools. To handle data management and analysis as required as well as contribute to the design and organisation of the R&D project and assist with project administration. To assist with collating and writing publications, the project reports and working papers.Skills and experience requiredThe successful candidate will have significant experience in Software Engineering and Databases and significant experience in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. You will have knowledge and experience in database frameworks (e.g. SQL, Tableau, Hadoop, NoSQL) and developing software projects as well as knowledge and experience in AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, etc) and developing AI/ML projects. The ability to implement specialised innovative ideas into code (Python, R) and excellent written and oral communication, and IT skills is essential for this role.You will be able to organise your own research activities to deadline and quality standards and be self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines. The ability to understand complex problems requiring in-depth knowledge and the ability to collaborate with others is essential. Excellent interpersonal, and organisational skills and being flexible and adaptable to workload and team requirements as well as effective in a team setting are essential. You will also be able to demonstrate initiative and the ability to learn new skills.Qualifications requiredYou will be educated with an undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent) in Data Science, Computer Science or in a relevant subject area.You will also have a PhD (or equivalent qualification) degree in Data Science/Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Science or close to completion of PhD (no more than 3 months prior to viva) in a relevant subject area, or equivalent experience.Please view the job description and person specification for a full list of the duties and essential criteria.
