British Transport Police (BTP) are recruiting for a Specialist Digital Forensics Investigator (DFU) on a permanent contract. The role is paying £36,529.65 per annum, plus £3,033.56 London allowance, plus £3,957.00 Market supplement (non-contractual) and will be based at Ebury Bridge, London. This role is office based.BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.As a Specialist Digital Forensics Investigator with BTP you will Provide effective forensic expertise that is professional, readily accessible and cost effective in order to support the investigative process from initial case acceptance to conclusion. You will be required to support investigating officers through the seizure of digital media and mobile devices, the acquisition, processing, reporting and interpretation of data and the subsequent handling of digital data. Be committed to and complying with the standards under ISO 17025 and ISO 17020 and the Forensic Science Regulators Codes of Practice and Conduct and to contribute to the continuous improvement in the delivery of digital forensics solutions to the organisation. To provide professional support in mentoring new members of staff and assist with competence testing of staff so that the unit is effective in its delivery of digital forensics to the organisation.As a Specialist Digital Forensics Investigator you will be required to:
  • To conduct digital forensic examinations within the confines of ISO 17020 and 17025 and the Forensic Science Regulator's Codes of Practice, ensuring continuing compliance and competence.
  • To ensure all digital forensic examinations are conducted in accordance with all extant relevant legislation.
  • To conduct laboratory based and onsite examinations of exhibits to support investigations.
  • To be competent and utilise a range of hardware and software to conduct investigations and subsequently produce evidential reports from seized digital evidence.
  • To provide specialist advice and knowledge to colleagues, partners and other individuals and agencies to support the achievement of organisational objectives (at scene or in a laboratory.

  • Educated to degree level in Digital Forensics or equivalent experience.
  • Qualification or significant experience in the use of at least one form of mobile phone forensic software (Cellebrite/XRY/Aceso/Oxygen).
  • Qualification or significant experience in the use of at least one form of computer forensic software (XWays / AXIOM).
Experience:
  • Experience of working within a pressured environment and successfully meeting organisational objectives.
Skills:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with individuals / groups at all levels of technical knowledge both within and outside the police service.
  • Ability to work within prescribed process and procedures but with the capacity to identify and implement areas of continuous improvement.
  • Competent in the use of IT software including Office 365 including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.
Knowledge:
  • Technically proficient background in digital forensics including (but not limited) to areas such as PC architecture (hardware/networking) and operating systems (Windows, OSX and Linux)
