Position DescriptionPay Grade: Coordinator 7This position is responsible for coordinating services for students with disabilities.Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.*Conducts student intake process and paperwork, including review and evaluation of disability documentation to determine students' eligibility for services and appropriate accommodations*Provides crisis intervention to students on an as needed basis*Monitors academic progress of students and provides curriculum and course load guidance as it relates to or impacts disability*Facilitates admissions process and priority registration for students eligible for DSS services*Assists students in requesting and arranging instructional, technical, facility, and human resource accommodationsFacilitates student assisted testing and alternative testingSchedules and provides support counseling appointmentsConducts study sessions in the absence of a Learning Specialist or in an emergencyKeeps abreast of state-of-art technology, techniques, laws, services, and philosophy relevant to disability areasMaintains accurate and timely records of student interactions in a case management systemMaintains confidentiality when interacting with students, families, faculty, staff and community partnersAssists in the supervision and coordination of department personnel and operationsProvides help as needed for student assisted testing, alternative testing and converts materials into an alternative formatPromotes positive student self-advocacy skills and acts as an advocate for student needs with faculty and staff when necessaryAssists students in developing realistic, goal-directed education plans that respect their disabilityServes as a resource for students, faculty, and staff and serves on various college committeesDevelops and implements internal/external workshops that will educate future/current students, faculty, and staff regarding disability servicesProvides liaisons, consultation, and referral services for students to community agencies and professionalsArranges service implementation and accommodations with various campuses and programsPromotes disability awareness and helps the College's faculty, staff, and students develop positive attitudes toward disabilityParticipates in events such as graduation, open house, transition fairs, internal/external outreach, etc which may include occasional evening and weekend hoursAbility to travel between campusesCompletes annual applied benchmark project on an individual or group basisQualificationsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Ability to contribute to the general teamwork efforts required of the staff to maintain Disability Support ServicesAbility to interpretation of psychological, educational, and/or medical documentation required for the determination of accommodationsWell-developed interpersonal skills, including ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationshipsWorking knowledge of various disabilitiesIntermediate knowledge of disability laws as they pertain to higher education and students with disabilities including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the American with Disabilities ActAbility to relate effectively with students from a variety of backgrounds, including patience with under prepared or challenging studentsRequirements:Master's degree in Disabilities, Special Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation, Counseling, Assistive Technology, or a related fieldOne year experience working with students with disabilities in a secondary or post-secondary educational environmentExperience with the interpretation of psychological, educational, and/or medical documentation required for the determination of accommodationsEssential Personnel:TBDWe Value a Diverse Workforce!As an equal employment opportunity employer, Wake Tech values diversity, equity and inclusion in our workforce.
