In particular, the Reality Labs Research Audio team is focused on two goals: creating virtual sounds that are perceptually indistinguishable from reality, and redefining human hearing. These two initiatives will allow us to connect people by allowing them to feel together despite being physically apart, and allow them to converse in even the most difficult listening environments.We are seeking a Data Engineer who will be responsible for processing and managing our high-quality multimedia datasets for use by our researchers and engineers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, experience in data processing and management, and proficiency in working with developers to optimise data pipeline tooling.Responsibilities:
  • Data processing: Using online workflows and command line tools / scripts to clean and transform our multimedia datasets to make them available for our researchers and engineers.
  • Data management: Managing and documenting our multimedia datasets, which includes curating the data, providing access information, and sharing other relevant information. This requires collaboration with multiple internal teams and working with spreadsheets, documents, internal wikis, and similar tools.
  • Data pipeline: Support improvements to our data pipeline tooling by working closely with developers to provide feedback and make modifications to optimise data flow and processing.
  • Skills and experience
Required:
  • Proven experience working with large spreadsheets or databases, e.g. working with data in Excel or in a database such as MySQL.
  • Working Python experience, including a strong understanding of common libraries such as numpy, pandas, and scipy.
  • Comfort with Linux and command line tools is essential.
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure that all aspects of our data are correct.
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Desired:
  • Knowledge of machine learning / artificial intelligence would be advantageous.
  • Interest in sound and audio, e.g. as demonstrated by activities such as playing a musical instrument, making audio recordings, or music production.
Education:
  • Degree-educated, preferably in a numerical or natural science subject, or at least three years of
  • professional experience.
