GSL Education are actively recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistants to work at an Alternative Provision located in York, North Yorkshire, starting as soon as possible.About the School:
  • The School provides education for 5 to 16 year olds with social, emotional and mental health needs, with a number of students on roll with an EHCP for Autism and ADHD.
  • The school offers exceptional education to students with additional needs related to social, emotional, and mental health.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored support and interventions to students with SEMH needs, both in and out of the classroom
  • Provide 1:1 support for children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs, and associated behavioural needs.
  • Implement strategies to support positive behaviour management and de-escalate challenging situations.
  • Liaise with the SENCO and other school leaders to follow Education Health Care Plan objectives to ensure outcomes are met.
  • Assist students with SEMH needs in accessing the curriculum and completing academic tasks.
  • Work closely with classroom teachers, SENCO, and other relevant staff to coordinate support and interventions for students.
  • Attend relevant training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with SEMH needs.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
  • Must hold the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs in a school or similar setting for at least 6 months. Placements through University or volunteering experiences will be accepted.
  • Understanding of SEMH-related challenges and appropriate strategies for intervention and support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Be able to work collaboratively with staff members and outside agencies, such as counsellors and mental health professionals.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education.
