Summary: We are seeking motivated individuals to join our team as Interviewers for a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) related to the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge (GHIB) in southwest Detroit. As Interviewers, your primary responsibility will be to conduct interviews with community members as part of the HIA's second phase. The purpose of the HIA is to comprehensively assess and understand the environmental and health impacts of the GHIB.Responsibilities:
  • Conduct approximately 25-35 household surveys in Detroit neighborhoods.
  • Build rapport with participants and effectively communicate the purpose and importance of the health impact assessment.
  • Follow established protocols and guidelines for data collection to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Participate in regular debrief meetings with the survey manager and research team.
  • Complete required documentation to track and verify completion of surveys.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of participants throughout the interview process.
  • Record and document responses accurately and comprehensively.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot any issues that arise during data collection.
  • Adhere to project timelines and meet predetermined targets for data collection.
  • Participate in multiple training sessions.

  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Once hired, incumbent will be required to complete online PEERRS human subjects training through the University of Michigan (or equivalent)
  • Reliable means of transportation to travel throughout Southwest Detroit
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience conducting household surveys
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred
  • Comfort using tablets and survey software
  • High school education or equivalent
  • Knowledge and/or interest in environmental issues, community organizing, community-based research, and/or green infrastructure
  • Knowledge of City of Detroit Southwest neighborhood geography
