OverviewAs a Purchasing Buyer, you will oversee the procurement of raw materials, packaging, and production supplies, ensuring optimal inventory levels to meet production targets and customer demands. You will manage the quality, quantity, and cost-efficiency of materials, aligning with company standards and budget constraints.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring the timely pick-up and delivery of shipments.
- Monitoring shipments, costs, timelines, and productivity.
- Addressing and resolving shipment and inventory issues.
- Analyzing and optimizing logistical procedures.
- Orders raw materials and packaging in regard to price, inventories, and availability to ensure compliance to company policies and procedures.
- Monitors raw material and packaging inventories to ensure sufficient quantities exist to cover scheduled production and schedule changes to meet customer emergencies.
- Contacts potential new suppliers to request periodic quotations, evaluate current market conditions and ensure the best pricing for the company.
- Ensures all raw materials and packaging are ordered within specifications and according to company quality programs.
- Ensures suppliers who provide out-of-spec materials are notified and provide credit on a prompt basis.
- Utilizes contract suppliers where contracts apply and ensures prices and specifications conform to contract terms.
- Provides information to internal customers, including R&D, QA, Technical Services, marketing, sales, finance and inventory control.
- Ensures compliance to all federal, state and local laws and company policies.
- Coordinates disposal of inactive inventory by the most economical and safe method.
- Coordinates with other department managers to ensure proper purchasing, scheduling, processing, packaging, accounting and inventory control activities and procedures.
- Performs special projects as needed within the procurement department.
- Compiles and submits information for all required plant/corporate monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
- Ensures compliance to quality, food safety, 5S, OSHA and HACCP support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
- 3+ years of purchasing/logistics or related experience, preferably in a food-related industry.
- BS/BA degree in business management or related field preferred.
