DescriptionJob Summary
The Crew Leader must have the knowledge and skills to lead a crew and effectively and efficiently perform the following: installing and repairing water and wastewater main lines, laterals, and service taps, cleaning the wastewater collection system, installing and changing water meters, repairing fire hydrants, and building or repairing wastewater manholes. The Crew Leader/Operator will be required to have or obtain a working knowledge of the collection and distribution systems and will be responsible for equipment operation including light to medium sized trucks, backhoes, track-hoes, loaders, K-saws, hand tools and similar equipment used in construction and maintenance of municipal infrastructure.Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical training in water and wastewater systems.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Texas Class B CDL, or the willingness and ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Wastewater Class II Collection or C Treatment and Water Class C Distribution or Treatment Certification.
  • Commitment and ability to obtain Wastewater Class III Collection or Class B Treatment and Water Class B Distribution or Class B Treatment Certification within 24 months of hire date.
  • Supervisory experience or equivalent training is a preferred qualification.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinating and participating in the activities of crews engaged in the installation, repair and maintenance of the City's collection and distribution systems.
  • Commitment to on-call availability and willingness to respond to weekend, after-hours, and emergency phone calls.
  • Frequent contact with the public in a professional and diplomatic manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills
  • Oversee and participate in the installation and repair of water mains and fire hydrants as well as sanitary sewer system and other appurtenances and activities associated with water and sewer system maintenance and reporting.
  • Use of the City of Ennis GIS to identify of the locations of valves, manholes, and piping within the collection and distribution systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards involved in performing maintenance and installation of utility infrastructure work and the required safety precautions to mitigate risk.
  • Ability to plan and organize work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and to give written instructions; able to follow instructions.
  • Foster and maintain positive and harmonious working relationships with coworkers and customers.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
