- This position will edit and oversee the production of the clients, “bookazines” (single topic newsstand issues) in collaboration with other photo editors and bookazine staff. This will entail photo editing as well as top editing others and ensuring all photo deadlines are met by all assigned photo editors.
- Manage executive production of complex photographic stories and special issues, ensuring projects are well managed and that budgets and deadlines are met: research and pitch ideas, assign photographers, develop a story narrative, establish a content plan and budget, select most compelling and relevant images for publication, work with designers and producers to create a logical and engaging visual narrative on all platforms, plan cover approach with photographer and colleagues; collect accurate caption information, verify credit line, archive and transmit images, work with pre-press on color correction, check image veracity, and make images available for broader use across platforms;
- Provide production and field support to photographers, including securing visas, permits, releases, letters of introduction and specialized equipment as well as clearing them through onboarding and compliance practices; project manage stories, moments, and franchises: lead, organize, collaborate, and communicate across all teams (video producers and editors, text editors, writers, designers, researchers, cartographers, and others) to executively produce most compelling, story or product (eg bookazine) for the audience; mentor and provide guidance for less experienced photo editors on the team; scout, identify, and develop photographic talent for the client.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Air Table and at least 1 photo editing program (Photo Mechanic, Photo Supreme, Lightoom); knowledge of or adept at picking up software programs regularly used (Premiere, Filemaker, Asana, Slack; Keynote)

- Bachelor's Degree required
- Journalism school or journalism major a plus
- Minimum of 7 years experience in the photography industry in an editing or advanced role; knowledge of photography business, trends, and best practices
- Experience with long-form documentary visual storytelling, and an understanding of videography and mobile storytelling
- Excellent visual taste
- Understanding of editorial content creation from pitch to completion
- Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to exercise independent judgement and work with minimal supervision; needs guidance only in the most complex situations;
- Solves complex problems and takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions;
- Strong project management skills; ability to identify expectations, establish and execute a project, meet deadlines and budget, and manage multiple projects simultaneously;
- Ability to collaborate across departments, to manage and communicate with colleagues, and to be a team player;
- Experience managing deliverables, assets, and workflows;
- Ability to provide guidance and feedback to less experienced colleagues in a respectful and constructive manner;
- Ability to think strategically about overall direction and future goals within and outside of the photo department.
- Some experience with / knowledge of core subject areas (wildlife, history and/or archaeology, nature, science, and travel) strongly preferred
