General Summary of PositionUnder the general direction of the Sheriff, Chief Deputy, Professional Standards Captain, Field Services Lieutenant, Reserve Deputy Supervisor; this position reports to the Reserve Deputy Coordinator. This position is responsible for replacing full time deputies at events that do not require a certified officer. The Non-Sworn Reserve is a private citizen that is not a sworn law enforcement officer and has no arrest authority. They provide support to the department, assists citizens, provide security at public functions and performs various duties as directed by the Sheriff. Responsible for providing truthful and accurate written and verbal communications.Hours not guaranteed each week.Essential & General Job FunctionsEssential Job Functions
  • Provide security at public functions.
  • Traffic direction at major events.
  • Ensures the safety and security of prisoners.
  • Transport prisoners between facilities.
  • Assist full time deputies where directed by the Sheriff.
  • Provide Emergency First Aid in the field.
  • Attends required training sessions, including but not limited to: defense arrest tactics, CPR Instruction.
  • Carries out duties as directed by the Sheriff.
Training, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesTraining and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older; 18 years of age or older if enrolled in an accredited criminal justice degree program.
  • Successful completion of Non-Sworn Reserve Deputy - Field Training Officer (FTO) training and evaluation program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Ability to operate a standard police radio.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, ordinances and departmental policies and procedures which impact duties in jail or patrol.
  • Knowledge of personal self-defense.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use tact and courtesy in maintaining an effective working relationship with department employees, county supervisors, county officials, and general public.
  • Ability to react quickly, both mentally and physically, use tack and discretion to optimize safety and control to any situation.
  • Ability to and skill to use and operate a variety of police and jail equipment.
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports.
