Offer DescriptionThe aim of this postdoctoral work is to study the absorption mechanisms of copper minerals and nanoparticles at the atmosphere-plant-soil interface. This will be achieved by combining isotope fractionation tools and identification of copper speciation by X-ray absorption, in order to gain a detailed understanding of the mechanisms of mineral internalization and transport in planta.
The candidate will submit online a detailed CV, a cover letter and a letter of reference. Deposition of a one-page research proposal is also encouraged. The post-doc researcher will be in charge of a multidisciplinary research project to study the reactivity and fate of nanomaterials and copper minerals after their foliar deposition.
The activities will consist of various tasks:
- Cultivation of model plants in controlled environments and exposure to different copper species
- Characterization of surface interactions, assessment of the bioavailable fraction and study of the kinetics of copper fate in planta by microscopy and elemental analyses by ICP-MS
- Study of elemental distribution and Cu speciation at cell and plant scales (drafting and submission of project for synchrotron access at ESRF)
- Characterization of Cu isotope fractionation in planta: isolation, purification on columns and multi-collector ICP-MS analyses.
- Supervision of trainee(s)
- Participation in the management of a small research team (ERC StG LEAPHY, project in progress). The Geosciences Environment Toulouse (GET) laboratory is one of the laboratories of the Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées. GET employs 250 people, including approximately 150 researchers and professors. It offers a multidisciplinary framework including geologists, chemists, physicists, biologists and sociologists. The candidate will join the G3 "Georesources, Genesis and Sustainable Management" team.
The work carried out during this post-doctoral contract will be integrated into the ERC StG LEAPHY project, which began in September 2022, led by Astrid Avellan. This grant will finance the running costs of this post-doctoral subject.Occasional travel to major research facilities in Europe or to other laboratories will be possible, as will participation in international workshops and/or conferences.RequirementsResearch Field Environmental science Education Level PhD or equivalentResearch Field Biological sciences Education Level PhD or equivalentResearch Field Geosciences Education Level PhD or equivalentLanguages FRENCH Level BasicResearch Field Environmental science Years of Research Experience 4 - 10Research Field Biological sciences Years of Research Experience 4 - 10Research Field Geosciences Years of Research Experience 4 - 10Additional InformationEligibility criteria- PhD in Environmental Sciences or equivalent
