Job Description:The Opportunity:
Governance and Strategic Planning are looking to recruit a Data and Insights Analyst to assist our small, high impact team. The postholder will help deliver key annual reporting and planning for the University, as well as competitor analysis such as league table evaluation and student fee benchmarking. This role will therefore enable the postholder to utilise and develop their analytical skills across central functions of the University.This post is open ended (permanent) and full-time (35 hours per week). We are open to considering a flexible working pattern. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.Your skills and attributes for success:
  • Analytical and inquisitive mind-set and the ability to identify key trends and insights from a complex dataset
  • Strong numeracy skills, demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail, and a commitment to data quality
  • Confidence in working both independently, showing initiative, and as part of a team in pursuit of shared objectives
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office suite or similar software packages, especially as an advanced user of Excel

All teams work closely together in partnership with others right across the University and engage with a range of external organisations, acting as a key point of contact for the Scottish Funding Council and Government agencies. We provide expert advice and guidance, produce insightful strategic analysis, research and commentary; and help to optimise the University's profile and reputation. We manage responses to public consultations and advise on policy to support the Principal and senior team in engagements with ministers and officials. We deliver information, business intelligence and analysis to enhance the University's approach to strategic and annual planning through evidence-based decision-making.We lead the development of the University's strategic planning framework, and we support Colleges, Schools and Support Groups with their plans, to ensure is delivered through cohesive business planning and carefully selected strategic performance measures. Through horizon scanning and awareness of our changing context, we are well-positioned to provide advice and insight internally and to represent the University externally.We aim to provide a clear, concise and influential voice - underpinned by robust data and analytics - on areas of interest and strategic importance, and we play a lead role in ensuring the continued development of the University's approach to Business Intelligence.We provide professional support, governance advice and secretariat services to the University's governing body, the University Court, and many of its Committees and the University's main management body, the University Executive, contributing directly to the effective governance of the University.
