This role of Assistant Cutter Operator is based at Bathford Paper Mill, where paper has been made for over 200 years. The Paper Machine was converted to a cylinder mould machine in 1973 which still runs today. Within this role, you will gain a variety of task-based skills throughout the Cutter House department. Due to the variation of the job tasks, this role also enhances interpersonal skills.The starting salary is £30,560.72 whilst the initial training takes place. This then rises to £36,601.80 once competent in one role.Job Purpose:To operate finishing equipment, ancillary equipment and their associated quality and control systems safely and with due regard to the environment.Carry out quality and dimensional checking on finished paper and ensure that the quality requirements for the tasks undertaken are met.Key Responsibilities:
  • Run the SHM machine unsupervised.
  • Understand use of making docket and relevence of quoted quality parameters.
  • Upload new webs and present to cutting station in register
  • Sample taking post overlap.
  • Transporting finished sheet fault free in to layboy.
  • Check finished sheets against templates and understand corrective actions required to meet specifications.
  • Use of the Quickscan to measure sheet dimensions.
  • Use QIS and quickweb for data input.
  • Understand and visually inspect sheets and demonstrate corrective actions for faults.
  • Retaining stacking quality of sheets.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
  • Good analytical skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative with minimum of supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both within the Department and with other Departments
  • Good organisational skills to schedule workload to meet production schedules and Sales deadlines.
  • An understanding of targets and KPIs
  • Good level of dexterity and precision when working with hands.
  • Computer literate, Microsoft Office (MS Word & Excel) and Department-specific systems.
