Every day, more than 80 000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.JOB TITLE & JOB CODE Title: Testing and Commissioning Engineering TechnicianLocation: Durban, South AfricaPURPOSE OF THE JOBCarry out the test of trains in accordance with the testing procedure and as per the delivery scheduleORGANISATIONOrganisation structure (job belongs to...)IndustrialReports directly to:Test EPU (Elementary Production Unit) ManagerOther reporting to:PrTCM (Project T&C Manager) , Train ManagerDirect reports:n.a.Network & LinksInternalT&C: Test Engineering Engineer/Technician, Project T&C Manager, Train ManagerValidation: TVE, Validation EngineerIndustrial: Manufacturing teamQuality: Industrial Quality Engineer, SQA (Sourcing Quality Assurance) EngineerDIS (Digital Information Systems): SIG teamsIntegrating & Participating Units ExternalCustomer representatives, suppliersMAIN RESPONSABILITIESPerformance measurement:CONQ (Cost of Non Quality) (internal & external to testing)EHS (Environment, Health, Safety): Zero Fatality and Severe InjuriesProductivityLead TimeCustomer acceptance before commissioning Responsibilities:o Understand in detail the Acceptance Criteria as per the contractual requirements for the Project/Product.o Ensure that contractor performs the required testing and commission as per the applicable SOP in order to meet the acceptance criteria and support locomotive handover.o Support Manufacturing, when required to carry out the systematic Hand Over to testing.o Ensure and check that all Serial Test Procedures are completed and verification of test reportso Ensure that the documentation follows through to completion in terms of Car History Book updates/uploadso Participate in related meetings and engagements to ensure handover of locomotive as per MPSo Manage the repair of failures as soon as they appear through the contractor and ensure timeous completion as required. Lead the repairs that become the responsibility of the BTSA PI team from start to completiono Trace with precision and rigor each failure using the appropriate tools in a safe manor.o In case where faults cannot be resolved by yourself, ensure timeous escalation , escalate to the Test Manager to reduce downtime as much as possibleo Always seek to improve the way of working within the required boundaries and propose improvements of the processes.o Ensure Interface and perfect working relationship with: other Test Engineering Technician, Industrial Quality, Methods and the customer teams, and any other stakeholders involve in the processo Report any non-up-to-date / none compliant testing tools to the manager.o Ensure that you are aware of the team and individual KPI’s and associated performance against the respective KPI’s to ensure that the team meets the testing scheduleo When and if required, support with physically installations of components in the testing stationo Report EHS Deviations, Near-misses and Accidents.o Monitor and report testing performanceo Ensure that all required reporting happens on a monthly, weekly and daily basis.o compliance to EHS rules and regulations at all time.o Support with recurring fault investigations and develop solutions to address the problem.o Use the available Locomotive system software diagnostic tools to assist with fault finding.o Devises test procedures to evaluate system performance on locomotive systems and components through failure analysiso Participate and lead special project for improvement of competent, sub components and improvements on the locomotiveo Support the service sites when necessaryo Ensure collaboration with team members to reach collective and individual objective.o Ensure workable relationship building and maintenance with the contactor in relation to the testing and commissioning.o Always act ethical and ensure compliance at all timesMAIN REQUIRED COMPETENCESEducational RequirementsMandatory:B.Tech Engineer (Electrical / Electromechanical)Fluent in EnglishDesirable:ExperienceMandatory:Minimum 5 years working experience (at this level) in a electrical/electronic/pneumatic testing environmentRolling Stock (Locomotive / train) experience will be an advantageRailway safety & RAMS experienceEnvironment, Health and Safety knowledge/exposureHands on Test & Commissioning, fault finding & repair experienceProven track record of Data analytics experienceValid driver’s licenseexperience in Industrial activities related to Electrical, Control, onboard communications & network systems within process industry, railways or factory automationBe familiar with high risk activities in association with Electrical work and EHS requirementsDesirable:Good knowledge in IT tools and smart devicesGeneral Railway knowledgeCompetencies & Skills:Ability to have a good communication with other colleagues and other functions (engineering, manufacturing, industrial, quality, …)Ability for problem-solving and efficient decision-making in complex environmentAbility to work across sites/functions in a multi-cultural environmentAdvanced computer literacy with computer System Diagnostic skillsReading of drawings and schematicsSound Mechanical and Electrical Fault-finding skillsSolid Electrical / Mechanical background and understanding of engineering principlesAccurate and analytical fault reporting and report writingKnowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Quality principlesKnowledge of maintenance principleMaximo knowledge will be an advantageCompetent is using Test, Faultfinding and repair tools and equipment.Willing to travel between sites if requiredShift work will be requiredBe able to do hands on repairs and use toolsGood interpersonal and communication skillsGood team player and be able to work in a teamYou don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us.
