SaaS Cloud Capacity Engineer

- Tiempo completo
- Service Accountability -You will be part of the SaaS StratOps Decision Support Capacity Engineering team, whose mission is to assure the continued global SaaS production capacity availability, optimization, business “buffer”, reserve management, scaling automation and provisioning, metering capacity limits control, and business governance through quota API / system automation.
- Ownership Scope - As a StratOps Decision Support Capacity Engineer, you will understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of the production services you collaborate with. In partnership with the Product Management & Development teams, you will have the responsibility to ensure that mission critical services and initiatives can occur at scale (programs, launches, etc.) as prioritized directly by the SaaS EVP. You will do this by meeting regularly with the service(s), translating OCI Cloud technology stack to the product need for capacity and technology, and responding to this need by ensuring forward looking availability via numerous “mechanisms” (supply signaling, automated reserve management, provisioning workflow enhancements, etc.).
- Operations Engineering - You will understand and be able to communicate the scale, capacity, performance attributes, and requirements of the services you work with. We are subject matter experts in OCI cloud capacity, able to understand and communicate characteristic of our service stack, such as:
- Service capacity demand characteristics including scaling, as well as monthly/annual demand and technical roadmaps inflections over time (mid-tier/database/storage tuning and conversion ex. Minimum build characteristics, bursting, auto-scale characteristics, etc)
- Service tuning needs, optimizing resource utilization, as load patterns fluctuate
- Instrumentation and metrics that clearly describe the service behaviors and provide decision support rollups for senior SaaS management (operations/product/dev)
- Resiliency and recoverability, including backup/restore and disaster recovery capacity requirements
- Technical Expertise - You will have a deep understanding of cloud capacity topology and their dependencies required to troubleshoot issues and define mitigations. You will bring this expertise to bear in driving cloud capacity reliability improvements in the services you engage with. This role translates base recipe capacity “components (block storage, AMD/Intel compute core, Database instances, networking stacks) into aggregate business value (environments, reliability, business profiling).
- Automation - You will have a clear understanding of automation and orchestration principles, and will be eager to help automate, wherever and whenever the possibility arises, while simultaneously eliminating technical debt. Automation must be part of your DNA. Critically this automation will be performed in partnership with peer development teams, where our prioritization and requirements definition will be paramount to success. Work will often involve documenting technical architecture of complex and highly scalable products, and proposing Oracle OCI cloud features (capacity reservations, Burstable compute, auto-scaling, new features) as improvements and strategies to ensure reliability and cost efficiencies.
- Broad Interests - SaaS Capacity Engineers are a rare mix of sysadmins and cloud engineers, and as such, are able understand and explain the effect of product architecture decisions on the capacity needed to run a distributed systems in a global regional deployment. They are driven by professional curiosity, and a desire to develop deep understanding of their services and their dependencies. Exploring interfaces, cloud API's, capacity “shape” performance characteristics, and load profiles to find anomalies and outline future expected requirements are “standard fare”. We aren't the primary service “expert” but we work directly with those who are, and partner to help the business grow in every region and through every discretionary “project” to succeed!
- Cross-team collaboration - You will engage with and present to a wide variety of audiences, ranging from individual contributors and teams to executive leadership
- Which includes being a United States Affirmative Action Employer
