The ECC Nurse coordinates with the ECC team to ensure proper patient care and guest communication. They work under the direct guidance and supervision of the ECC lead nurse, two board certified Criticalists, and a team of practice managers.Responsibilities
- Works closely with other experienced nurses, assistants, doctors, and management to provide excellent care of the patients and our guests
- Candidate must be detailed oriented and have Strategic/Forward/Critical Thinking
- Candidate must have the veterinary nurse skills as listed below:
- Have nursing skills that include proper animal restraint, obtain vitals, anesthesia monitoring, intubation, catheter placement, phlebotomy, performing treatments, and administering medications
- Able to monitor and care for patients using state of the art equipment and protocols
- Have knowledge of anesthetic protocols used in ECC surgical procedures and ability to run anesthesia for these cases
- Have knowledge of running in house lab machines, sending lab samples out and positioning and taking radiographs
- Have knowledge of triage and the ability to discuss estimates for diagnostics, procedures, and/or treatments with the clients
- Ability to document and maintain medical records
- Have sound knowledge of medical terminology, common disease processes and medical emergencies
- Cleaning, stocking and helping to maintain proper care of the hospital equipment
- Ability to provide thoughtful and compassionate communication with pet owners and referring veterinarians
- Knowledge and experience with CT scans/Dialysis/ventilators/TPE/ Central/PICC lines are a plus
- Be knowledgeable about safety standards in all areas of the veterinary hospital
- Proper and safe animal restraint/handling techniques for procedures, radiographs,
- Input data into electronic medical record system
- Basic medical terminology and common disease processes and medical emergencies
- Basic knowledge of triage
- Ability to assist in supervised sedated procedures
- IV catheter set up and phlebotomy sample collection
- Properly use laboratory equipment including CBC machine, chemistry analyzer,
- Assisting with restraint for ultrasound, input patient info, and transfer images to
- Highschool diploma or equivalent required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology is preferred, Certification is a plus.
- Must have at least 2 years of experience in veterinary medicine but at least one year of emergency medicine.
- Exceptional patient care and guest communication skills
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Flexibility to work days, nights on call, weekends and holidays
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time
- Knowledge of EzyVet software is a plus
- Knowledge of VetRadar software is a plus
