- Performs mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing inspections per City adopted code and ordinances on residential and commercial projects; verifies that all construction meets codes and local requirements.
- Conducts routine inspections on new and existing structures for safety and code compliance.
- Maintains effective records of inspections and related documents.
- Writes letters requesting additional information or changes and documentation to meet code requirements as needed.
- Researches codes; investigates incidents; maintains all records and documentation.
- Answers questions from citizens, contractors, builders, architects and engineers in person and on the telephone regarding building ordinance compliance, citizen complaints; works to address and resolve issues.
- Consults with contractors, builders, architects and engineers to resolve plan and code discrepancies and help find approved resolutions to questions and field conditions.
- This position is considered Critical Personnel during a natural or manmade disaster and/or a catastrophic event. This position may be required to provide services or perform duties for the benefit of the public and the continuity of City operations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of this position.
- For purposes of business continuity, employees in this position are considered Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers, as defined by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
- Performs other duties as required.

- International Building, and Residential and Mechanical codes.
- National Electrical codes.
- General building practices and their application to individual structures.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Operating a personal computer, standard software, and some specialized software.
- Communicating clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and plans.
- Valid State driver's license.
- International Building Code or International Residential Code certification, preferred, but must be obtained within one (1) year of hire.
- State Plumber Inspector License, ICC Mechanical and Electrical Certifications, preferred.
