About Kimberley Renal ServicesKimberley Renal Services (KRS) includes 4 Renal Health Centres based in Fitzroy Crossing, Broome, Kununurra, and Derby and a mobile prevention unit.The incidence of Kidney Disease in the Kimberley is one of the highest in Australia. Chronic Kidney disease (CKD) and End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) incidence within the Aboriginal population of the Kimberley greatly exceeds the national burden of disease. Dialysis prevalence for this region has more than tripled in the last decade and is increasing at a much faster rate than in the rest of Western Australia (WA).KRS and the regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) have developed a renal strategic plan to help combat this health crisis. This has enabled many patients to return to the Kimberley from Perth, which is 2,500kms away, to receive their treatment.Living in the Kimberley RegionThe Kimberley region is one of the oldest settled areas within Australia rich in culture and heritage, with first arrivals landing about 41,000 years ago. With some of the most diverse and breathtaking landscapes in the world, the Kimberley truly is a must-see destination. boasting stunning rivers and incredible national parks - you’ll never run out of places to explore.Located in the northern part of Western Australia, The Kimberley has three towns - Broome, Derby and Kununurra - with a total population of approximately 37,000. In addition to the sealed Route 1 which runs along the southern part of the area, the unsealed Gibb River Road runs through the heart of the region from Derby to the highway near Kununurra. Access to much of the region is by dirt road, air or sea.About the OpportunityKimberley Renal Services now has an opportunity for a dedicated Dialysis Registered Nurse Level 1 to join their KRS team in Kununurra WA, on a full-time permanent basis.Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Specialist you will manage a client caseload and deliver culturally safe nursing care in accordance with unit protocols and best practice guidelines.Some of your key responsibilities will include;
  • Being proactive in detecting potential dialysis access related problems by utilising assessment tools and equipment available, and make appropriate referrals.
  • Provide a holistic approach to client care, contributing to the multidisciplinary team and making referrals as needed.
  • Support the role of the Aboriginal Health Worker.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement at the Renal Health Centre.
For a copy of the job description, pleaseAbout YouTo be successful in this position, you will need to be eligible for national registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), along with advanced renal clinical skills and experience in the renal field (including acute and in centre dialysis).In this fast-paced role, you must have the ability to function effectively in emergency and high-stress situations in a changing work environment, while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and work ethic. You will also have well-developed interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills. Competency in the use of computer programs is required.You will also be committed to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control, acting in a culturally appropriate manner at all times.While not essential, candidates with at least 18 months current experience in haemodialysis nursing or working towards a Certificate in Nephrology will be held in high regard.Please note: To be eligible for this role, you will be required to hold a current ‘C’ Class Driver’s License.
