The teamThe Risk Department is responsible for the administration of the firm's risk and compliance procedures. They look after anti-money laundering issues and run the firm's file review programme and Lexcel assessment each year.
The opportunityAnti-Money Laundering
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the firm’s anti-money laundering policies and procedures.
- Ensure you are up to date with prevailing AML regulations and helping the AML Manager ensure any changes to the regulations or supporting guidance are adhered to by BDB Pitmans.
- Assist with preparations for regulatory inspections.
- Assist the AML Manager in monitoring compliance of the firm’s risk procedures for all new clients and matters. This will include: -
- Checking and processing Customer Due Diligence (CDD) for new and existing clients, including where applicable Source of Funds and High-Risk client forms.
- Conduct screening to identify politically exposed persons (PEPs), sanctions concerns, and other regulatory and reputational risks
- Responding to and resolving AML queries from colleagues in the fee earning teams and assisting the AML Manager with the same.
- Communicating to fee earners the firm’s client identity verification and source of funds verification requirements. Liaising with clients on complex AML matters.
- Profiling and organising client KYC in the correct manner.
- Conducting ongoing monitoring on existing clients.
- Lead on the preparation of training materials, including delivery of training to new and existing staff members.
- Act as a mentor to more junior members of the team, providing support when required.
- Assist with running conflict checks and analysing the results according to the firm’s Conflicts Policy, including escalating where applicable and following the correct protocol.
- Assist with other compliance related projects as and when required.
- Undergraduate degree or above is preferred.
- Good legal knowledge
- Good risk & compliance knowledge
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Good use of written and oral English.
- Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with varied parties, internal and external.
- Strategic thinking and decision making abilities.
- Experience of working with various levels of personnel to deliver agreed outcomes within agreed timescales.
- Previous office/administration experience
- Previous work experience in law, compliance or AML preferred.
