The purpose of this job is to service, maintain, and repair county vehicles. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintenance and repair, performing field service & repairs, and performing additional tasks as assigned.Job Related RequirementsWORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm or 7:00 am - 3:30 pmMay be required to work on religious holidays.Regular and predictable attendance is required.Must work cooperatively with others.When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job FunctionsHigh school diploma or equivalent with one year of automotive repair experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.Must possess a valid driver's license.Criminal background must indicate eligibility for the supervision of inmates. Must possess or be able to obtain security training for the supervision of inmate workers as set forth by the Georgia Department of Corrections Standard Operating Procedures within six months of date of hire or first available opportunity.Essential Duties, ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.Performs engine, transmission, hydraulic, electrical, and brake repairs on assigned vehicles.Performs scheduled preventive maintenance functions (i.e. checks belts, batteries, brakes, lights, transmissions, exhaust systems, and brakes).Performs emergency repairs on vehicles as needed.Services automotive air conditioning systems.Repairs flat tires, replaces worn tires, and balances new tires for all Unified Government vehicles.Picks up/delivers vehicles to subcontractor sites for repairs and services; verifies work completed according to specifications.Sets up and test drives vehicles and/or equipment.Maintains tool and equipment inventory.Welds and fabricates according to specifications.Installs new logos and numbers.Picks up parts from vendors.Maintains work area.May oversee the work of inmates.Performs other related duties as requiredKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the Central Services Department as they pertain to the performance of duties relating to the position of Automotive Mechanic.Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in the repair of automotive equipment, preventive and corrective maintenance, mechanical repair of engines, and related procedures and methods as required in the performance of duties.Knowledge of the terminology used within the department.Skill in diagnosing defects in automotive equipment.Skill in operating and using electronic diagnostic equipment, county vehicles, welder, tire machine, cutting torch and mechanics tools.Ability to compile, organize, prepare and maintain an assortment of records, reports and information in an effective manner and according to departmental and/or governmental regulations.Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and other staff members.Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations.Mathematical ability to handle required calculations.Ability to plan, organize and/or prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Requires the ability to lift, bend, push, pull, manipulate equipment/tools and objects as the position necessitates.MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as electronic diagnostic equipment, county vehicles, welder, tire machine, cutting torch and mechanics tools. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities.
