The role is based in Milton Keynes and located in our impact safety company; Brandsafe - Europe's leading innovator of impact protection and high visual safety solutions for the industrial workplace. You will be designing our next generation of pedestrian and structure impact protection, mid-life upgrades for our existing products, and customer specific solutions.Reporting to the Group Design Manager and working alongside our customer focused Brandsafe team, you will help drive new impact protection product development with input into all aspects of the design process such as material selection, supplier relations and physical impact testing of products for certification. Responsible for creating 3D CAD models/assemblies, technical drawings and costed BOMs as part of product development and supporting the preparation of evidence for design reviews, including, but not limited to:
  • Basic market research and Concept Creation
  • 3D CAD creation (SolidWorks), Design for Manufacture (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA)
  • Basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Basic structural analysis (FEA)
  • Designing product components and assemblies using Solidworks and preparing evidence for design reviews
  • Identifying potential product and/or manufacturing improvements with Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly (DfM & DfA)
  • Owning a portfolio of work including new product development
  • Supporting costed Bill of Materials (BOMs)
RequirementsEssential skills, experience and aptitudes
  • An Engineering or Materials based higher education (HND or Foundation Degree)
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD design (Solidworks not essential) and BS8888 design standard
  • Knowledge of DfM and DfA
  • Candidates must we able to provide proof of Right to Work in the UK (without Employer Sponsorship)
  • Capable of working on multiple tasks efficiently with support.
  • Comfortable using initiative to explore multiple potential solutions.
  • Able to work independently and autonomously when required.
  • Accountable and takes responsibility for standard of work.
  • Applies continuous improvement to their work and company's range of products
  • Agile and flexible, ready to respond to change.
  • Collaborative team player
Desirable
  • BEng in Mechanical Engineering or polymer materials specialisation
  • Knowledge of basic FEA
  • Knowledge of manufacturing materials
